If you are passionate about growing plants, meticulous in your work, and motivated by hands on problem solving in a research environment, this role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to our R&D pipeline. As the R&D Grow Technician, you will support a state-of-the-art controlled plant growth facility and carry out essential activities such as irrigation management, integrated pest management, environmental and nutrient monitoring, and experimental execution (careful data collection). This position plays a critical part in ensuring that experiments related to agronomics are executed with precision and that plant performance is measured consistently and accurately. Collaboration with the breeding and R&D teams is central to the role, and success requires a detail-oriented mindset, a strong sense of ownership, and genuine enthusiasm for advancing high quality plant science.
 
This position is based out of Stayner, Ontario.
 
What you’ll be doing:
  • Responsible for all aspects of plant growth and plant care in a research setting (irrigation, integrated pest management, timely pruning and de-leafing, harvesting, drying) 
  • Troubleshooting grower problems and/or product issues
  • Execute varying growth protocols according to experimental designs
  • Adhere to sound project management methodology with defining milestones and maintaining timelines
  • Collection and analyses of data and using relevant software
  • Writing and reporting of technical results and information
  • Presenting findings, scientific insights and recommendations to peers
  • Track and evaluate effectiveness of treatments and determine next steps
You’ll need to have:
  • 2+ years plant growing experience preferably in an R&D setting
  • Graduates from a B.Sc. and M.Sc. program in Horticulture, Plant Agriculture, Plant Biology, Ecology, Botany, Plant Pathology and related will be considered
  • License to apply IPM products is an asset
  • Experience in plant and/or horticultural science, involvement in R&D projects is an asset
  • Excellent attention to detail and handle and understanding of scientific methodologies
  • Understanding of plant production systems in controlled environments, greenhouses, growth chambers, etc.
  • Some laboratory and testing experience is an asset
  • Experience with cannabis desired but not required
  • Possess strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills to drive decision-making and effectively work with internal and external stakeholders
  • Scientific curiosity, personal drive and networking abilities to find breakthrough technologies, product improvements and leading methods
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
