Founded in 1992, Center for Elders’ Independence has earned the reputation as the one of the premier safety net organizations and community resources for seniors and healthcare in the East Bay. CEI's interdisciplinary team approach to care planning and care implementation provides high quality, affordable, integrated health care services to the elderly.

Here's what some of our nurses and nurse practitioners say about working at CEI:

“Working with a team is very rewarding in an ever changing health care environment. I enjoy being able to look at the patient as a whole picture. In a hospital setting, you are so focused on the immediate issue at hand. At CEI, I am able to look at the patient overall and improve the patients’ experience of care. I like the consistent challenge – from day to day, nothing is ever the same, there is always something new to tackle.”

“Because the clinic is right here with the day center, I get to see patients having all sorts of other experiences that a nurse isolated in a purely clinical setting wouldn’t get to see.  I see them dancing and flirting and playing word games.  End-of-life care also lets me be involved in very powerful and beautiful conversations with people as they get ready for their upcoming death.  It really opens your heart and allows you to be with them in a very deep place.”

“I like my job. I like to work with elderly people when they can live independently and make their own decisions. It’s very different from a nursing home.”

Center for Elders’ Independence is a PACE (Program of All- Inclusive Care for the Elderly) organization that uses an interdisciplinary team approach to care planning and care implementation for the purpose of providing high quality, affordable, integrated health care services to the elderly, including an Adult Day Health Center, and promoting autonomy, quality of life and the ability of individuals to live in their communities. Unlike other healthcare plans, CEI is not a "fee-for-service" plan. It is a “capitation” healthcare plan. CEI is paid a set amount for each person enrolled in our program, whether or not that individual seeks care. We are a growing company that offers stability and continues to thrive.
