BI Engineer
Description
Moz is looking for a natural problem solver with a strong interest in fulfilling the business' expanding appetite for data and helping define our data analytics roadmap. Role involvement will be in all parts of the BI process > from data acquisition to final presentation. The engineer will develop reports and self-service tools for internal customers via Domo and Amazon Quicksight from data housed in log files, Redshift, S3 buckets, datashares, and 3rd party API integrations.
This is a fully remote position.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the subject matter expert for sourcing and transforming diverse, structured data across the Ziff Davis product platforms using combinations of pipeline tools.
- Utilize business intelligence expertise, business knowledge and technical skills to successfully deliver solutions that help solve business challenges.
- Partner with cross-functional business stakeholders to gather business and functional requirements and translate these requirements into robust, scalable, operable solutions that work well within the overall data architecture
- Assess the impact of production system changes to the existing pipelines and implement changes to data warehouse, ETL, and reporting code to ensure consistent and accurate reporting.
- Define key metrics thoroughly understanding data streams; act as a subject matter expert and manage through obstacles to achieve program objectives
- Analyze, design, and test BI front-end deployment and back-end ETL processes according to user requirements.
- Document technical standards, build and maintain a comprehensive data dictionary.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in a Business Intelligence/Reporting Analyst or Engineer role.
- 3+ years of knowledge and experience using database systems, SQL, and ETL tools, especially Redshift, Python, and R.
- 2+ years of experience deploying data visualizations into BI solutions, especially Domo and Amazon Quicksight.
- Experience in pipelining large, complex data structures.
- Ability to manage data from multiple data sources including varying database platforms, log files, Google Analytics, S3 Buckets, Salesforce, and API endpoints.
- Experience working with structured and unstructured data from various sources and formats.
- Passion and interest in Business Intelligence, ETL Processes, Data Warehousing, Data Integration, and Data Modeling.
- Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills with ability to communicate ideas and solutions to non-technical users
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive customer and internal information.
- Highly self-motivated and directed with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative, and remote environment.
Preferred Experience:
- CI/CD Pipeline
- Terraform and ECS design and maintenance
- DataDog implementation and utilization
- Exposure to Kanban and JIRA
- Prior or current experience working within a SaaS environment
- Professional experience using managed cloud services (AWS)
- Professional experience using command-line interfaces and shell scripting
