Strategy & Business Operations Manager, London


Funding Circle is seeking a Strategy & Business Operations Manager to develop and drive business strategy and to tackle complex business questions across the organisation. This role will report to the Head of Strategy and Business Operations, U.K., and will help drive both UK and Group Strategy.

The Role:

This role will report to the Head of Strategy and Business Operations, U.K. and will have the following responsibilities:

  • Own the development and implementation of the UK Business strategy over 1 and 3 year horizons (note the UK business represents ~70% of overall Funding Circle loan originations)
  • Work with the Head of Strategy and Business Operations and the UK Leadership Team to decide and deliver our strategy
  • Lead the development of new growth areas or efficiency initiatives and improve existing business processes and operations
  • Work with a broad range of stakeholders to ensure development of practical ideas and lead the implementation and delivery of these projects
  • Deliver successful cross-functional business change programmes including end-to-end project leadership, planning, collaboration with internal-external stakeholders and post-implementation support
  • Primary activities will include:
  • Supporting the Head of Strategy and UK MD to develop both the Commercial and Retail Investor strategies for the UK, and overseeing performance tracking and implementation
  • Supporting the Head of Strategy, CEO and Global Leadership Team to build, decide and communicate Funding Circle’s next 3 year plan – ‘FC2023’
  • Evaluating new product development/efficiency opportunities and prioritising opportunities by developing quantitative business cases/financial models
  • Owning Funding Circle UK’s understanding of the competitive environment: collating, assessing and analysing the market to ensure the business is always fully appraised of the competitive environment to support decision making; presenting back to stakeholders to keep the business informed
  • Leading cross-functional teams to deliver opportunities and drive value for Funding Circle
  • Developing/supporting special projects, including operational as well as strategic changes, to deliver opportunities to the market

You have:

  • 2 – 4+ years of experience in a Strategy Consulting environment, ideally with an MBA
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills; comfort in building excel models to support decision making as well as doing quicker ‘back of the envelope’ triangulations
  • Ability to draw strategic insights from analysis and to communicate concisely and effectively with stakeholders across the business
  • Motivated to take ideas from inception to execution including excellent project management skills
  • Adaptability and willingness to roll sleeves up and get involved with all parts of the business – to accept that change is a constant and to be comfortable in taking decisions with sometimes imperfect information
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with individuals from different parts of the organisation with different background and perspectives
  • Enthusiasm for a high-paced, team-oriented environment – we work closely, collaboratively and try to enjoy it!
  • Experience working in a fintech/knowledge of the fintech industry a plus
