JOB TITLE: Tournament Traveler Lane Monitor/Center Desk Associate

 

LOCATION: Tournament Site (Las Vegas, NV or Reno, NV)

 

POSITION TYPE: Temporary Full-Time

 

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

 

REPORTS TO: Lanes’ Supervisor

 

WORK HOURS: MondaySunday (hours vary depending on tournament schedule), ability to work extended hours, as needed.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

USBC is looking for dedicated, service-minded individuals to join our tournament traveler team as a Lane Monitor Associate. This highly visible role is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while ensuring adherence to USBC general playing rules and tournament policies. Lane Monitor Associates serve as on-the-lanes guides, helping bowlers navigate competition standards and maintaining a fair, consistent tournament environment. Their presence and professionalism are essential to the success of USBC Championship events.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Squad Room duties – greet and direct participants, make pre-squad announcements, and organize march-outs.
  • Competition Service – communicate “trouble calls”, approach problems, fan interference, slip-and-falls, etc. Communicate issues to mechanics, the center desk, and management.
  • Apply USBC/tournament policy – competition compliance: Sportsmanship, pace, scoring, and playing rules.      
  • Regularly participate in scheduled meetings and huddles. Keep tournament leaders apprised of department activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

 

         Superior customer service proficiencies-service-minded and engaged.

         Effective communication skills-ability to speak clearly and confidently.

         Robust interpersonal skills–team player.

         Ability to work nights and weekends, and special events.

         Focused–the ability to complete tasks accurately in a distraction-filled environment.

         Computer and communication systems literate - PC, multi-line phones, and two-way radios.

 

EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • High School Diploma or continual learning education.
  • Must pass USBC’s Registered Volunteer Program (RVP) background screening and adhere to the Code of Conduct of the USBC Registered Volunteer Program (RVP).
  • Familiarity with tournament bowling and bowling terminology.
  • Understanding of USBC Playing Rules & Tournament Rules.
  • Must always be neat and well-groomed, as this role will have frequent contact with guests, clients, and supporting staff.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

  • Must be mobile as well as stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25lbs.

 

TRAVEL: This position will require the employee to be on-site for the Championships, so relocation is required for up to 6 months at a time.
