Job Summary:
- Leads and manages the site Business Support team to ensure that their work is aligned with business priorities, and is focused on the support and delivery of Unitas projects. The Business Support Manager is fully immersed in, and is responsible for, the effective implementation and successful delivery of the product changes, cost savings, customer launches, and capital expenditures for the site. He/she champions process and people capability for launch excellence.
- Effectively influences site and business strategies through the development of value creating solutions that enhance site/business performance and is an active participant in multiyear platform roadmaps and annual business plan development.
- Serves as a conduit for delivering prioritized, upstream projects and process / system improvements through practice of risk and change management, preventive action, and continuous improvement, integrating these methodologies into the daily work occurring at the Site.
- Functions as a member of the Site Leadership Team, with supervisory responsibility of product, process, technical, and/or engineering resources. Has responsibility for challenging and developing Business Support team members beyond their current functional roles in order to enhance project delivery and results.
- Promotes, shepherds, facilitates, and is a Subject Matter Expert of the Unitas Portfolio & Project Management process and governance for the Site.
- Serves as the site interface for customer, supplier, and vendor visits. Is knowledgeable about the process and facility, and the plant’s capability as it relates to satisfying customer needs.
- The successful incumbent could grow into an Operations Leadership position in the future.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Leadership Team Member:
- As a member of the DLT, assists the team in navigating obstacles; makes policy and decisions; debates with, and challenges the team; and, openly and professionally, provides his / her perspectives.
- Manages assigned projects and participates on teams to meet the site’s safety, people, cost, productivity, operational success, and project effectiveness goals.
- Develops site Business Support objectives and metrics. Tracks and reports results and project status, integrating metrics and initiatives with the Daily Management System (DMS).
Business Support Team:
- Leads product change, major capital (including equipment, facility, and utility projects), launch, and process improvement projects for the site.
- Coordinates changes related to projects and trials with Planning, Supply Chain, Operations, Reliability, and QA. Includes other functions in upstream development work to ensure that customer (both internal and external) needs are met.
- Communicates and provides training to team and other departments to ensure that team members understand the change, its importance (i.e. relationship to business objectives and/or customer needs), and to ensure a smooth transition to the process / receiving teams.
- Supports Operations in building profound process and product knowledge to improve quality, productivity, and worker skill-base.
- Ensures quality system procedures such as risk management, change management, launch readiness, document control, and qualification procedures are being followed. Reviews and approves, and often facilitates aspects of these systems.
- Partners with customers and supplier; participates in customer, supplier, and / or vendor meetings as needed.
Budget & Capex Management:
- Manages departmental budget. Ensures capital expenditures are according to plan and budget; time and spend commitments are met; initiates, justifies, approves, tracks, and ensures timely closure of appropriation requests for the Site; assists in preparing capex plans for future year based on site needs and Platform Roadmaps.
Unitas Governance & Project Management:
- Facilitates and governs the Unitas project management process for the Site.
- Ensures that the teams utilize project management techniques, the Unitas process, and Smartsheet tools when managing projects, completing projects on-time, within budget, and with expected results.
People Leader:
- Build an effective engineering organization.
- Challenges and develops team beyond current functional roles to build people capability.
- Manages time and attendance for direct reports.
- Prioritizes and assigns work in alignment with business priorities. Allocates resources for new projects.
- Reviews performance for direct reports; provides regular coaching and feedback in accordance with the Domtar PMP process.
- Manages, develops, and motivates team, helping them to seek and accomplish self-development opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of ten years of experience leading various operational disciplines in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated results for Profit/Loss Responsibility and measurable evidence of continuous improvement.
- Experience at various levels of leading cross functional departments and managing both Salaried and Hourly workforces.
- Excellent demonstrated leadership skills.
- Sound administrative skills with well-developed management skills.
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing with demonstrated use of the tools / principles with quantifiable results
- Experience working in a broader cross division business unit model
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in related industry
- Master’s Degree
- Six Sigma Blackbelt certification
- Lean Manufacturing certification
