The AI System Development Intern supports the research, design, and implementation of localized Large Language Model (LLM) solutions to enhance the corporate IT Knowledge Base. This role focuses on building an automated Q&A system through the development of web agents, vector database management, and model fine-tuning to ensure high-accuracy information retrieval.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
     
  • Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with IT teams to identify key knowledge domains and document functional requirements for the automated Q&A system.
  • System Design: Assist in designing system architectures for local LLM deployment, including RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) workflows and web agent integration.  
  • AI Development Support: Support the development team in implementing web agents and integrating LLM APIs with internal IT systems.
  • Knowledge Base Management: Organize and process unstructured IT documentation into vector databases to facilitate efficient semantic search and retrieval.  
  • Model Optimization: Participate in fine-tuning and filtering LLM output to improve the precision and reliability of technical answers.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare and maintain documentation for AI workflows, including system specifications and user guides for the IT Knowledge Base.
  • System Testing: Participate in unit and integration testing, specifically focusing on the accuracy of LLM responses and the stability of web agent interactions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with senior developers and system analysts to ensure seamless integration of AI components into the existing IT infrastructure. 
Knowledge and Skills:
     
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to translate complex IT troubleshooting processes into effective AI prompts and logic.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Python, LLM frameworks (such as LangChain or Semantic Kernel), and database concepts. Knowledge of vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Milvus, or FAISS) is highly advantageous.
  • AI Specialization: Understanding of RAG architecture, prompt engineering, and basic model fine-tuning techniques.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to document AI logic and interact with technical teams.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail in verifying the accuracy of AI-generated content and troubleshooting logic errors in web agents.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to the rapidly evolving AI landscape and changing project requirements in a dynamic environment.
Required Qualifications:
             
Years of Education  

  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Work Experience
   
  • Academic or project experience involving LLMs, Machine Learning, or Natural Language Processing (NLP).
Preferred Qualifications:
          
  • Experience with web scraping or agentic workflows is a plus.  
Working Conditions:
       
  • Office Only: Typically works in an office environment.
  • Requires sitting, operating a computer keyboard, telephone and other office equipment for extended periods of time. 

$17.75/hour is an estimated pay range for this role working in Fremont, California office. The final amount will be determined based on the qualifications & experience of the candidate related to the role.
