Position Summary: 

The Vice President, Asset Strategy is a senior leader responsible for establishing the strategic direction, governance, and execution of the organization’s portfolio of programs and projects. This role partners closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to translate corporate priorities into actionable plans, ensure effective allocation of resources, proactively manage risks and dependencies, and drive disciplined execution across the organization.
 
The Vice President will establish scalable methodologies and best practices, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement. This individual will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing visibility into portfolio performance, risks, resource requirements, and strategic trade-offs to enable informed decision-making and successful delivery of organizational priorities.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to define and implement the organization’s strategy for program and project execution, translating corporate objectives and strategic priorities into actionable programs, projects, milestones, and deliverables
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight across a portfolio of complex, cross-functional initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and business objectives
  • Establish and maintain portfolio governance and prioritization processes that enable effective decision-making, resource allocation, accountability, and visibility across programs and projects
  • Manage project and portfolio budgets, forecast resource requirements, and optimize the deployment of internal and external resources to support organizational priorities
  • Partner with functional leaders and cross-functional teams to establish clear roles, responsibilities, decision rights, and accountability while driving timely execution and resolution of issues
  • Drive operational excellence by optimizing processes and implementing best practices for project planning, execution, and delivery
  • Oversee the development timelines to identify, mitigate, and manage risks, including overseeing and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and risk indicators to ensure high standards of quality, performance, and efficiency
  • Manage relationships with executives, clients, and other stakeholders, communicating project status, risks, and strategic implications
  • Deliver regular reports and presentations summarizing project progress, financial performance, and strategic outcomes and recommendations to the leadership team
  • Drive continuous process improvements, utilizing data and analytics to track performance and enhance project delivery
 Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree preferred, in science, technology, or related field with 12 - 15+ years of progressive experience within early and late clinical development, medical affairs, business development, and asset strategy, preferably within the bio pharmaceutical industry, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional programs and portfolios involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, significant organizational dependencies, and substantial budgets
  • Strong strategic and analytical capabilities, with the ability to translate business goals into project outcomes and evaluate portfolio performance
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information, develop clear recommendations, and influence senior leaders and stakeholders
  • Ability to define and implement strategies in a fast-paced and evolving environment, including knowledge of agile and traditional project management methodologies
  • Effective time management skills with the ability manage competing priorities, operate in a proactive manner, and possess a results and solutions-oriented mindset
  • Collaborative and influential leader who thrives in a matrix environment
This is a hybrid role (2-3 days a week) at our Newark, CA office.
 
The anticipated annualized base pay range for this full-time position is $300,000-$366,000. Ardelyx utilizes industry data to ensure that our compensation is competitive and aligned with our industry peers. Actual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target and equity awards, subject to eligibility and other requirements.
