Our Product organization manages our business lines and drives innovation, creating sustainable benefits for students and competitive advantages for the company. Product Management leaders are stewards for the product lifecycle and the business opportunity each product represents. They coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and distill input from a variety of market sources. Ideal candidates are passionate about creating education opportunities for students while supporting schools, colleges, and universities.   

 

The role of Director in Product Management is critical to the successful delivery of products and platforms associated with the LMS but that may also span the Anthology data ecosystem. This position will coordinate a team of Product Managers and may collaborate directly with one or more software development managers as well, acting as a bridge between solution areas and all other areas of the company. Without the Director role, Anthology would not be able to effectively coordinate our work delivering world-class products and services to our customers. 

 

The role of Director will challenge individuals who hold the position to perfect the skills and competencies required to build cross-company alignment for activities related to a given solution area. Specific skills Directors will learn include the abilities to inspire and mentor product team members; guide the high-level direction of product roadmaps; and to coordinate efforts across multiple functional areas of the organization, especially as it pertains to delivery of major milestones in the evolution of our LMS and its integrated ecosystem of higher education data. 

 

Specific responsibilities will include:

 

Knowledge Management and Delivery 

  • Leveraging expertise in admissions, student success, and other enrollment management-related trends and practices, generating thought leadership and quality written content or presentations where required, including at conferences, customer meetings, and our annual user conference 
  • Maintaining active awareness of market and competitive trends, of relevant drivers and domain topics in higher education enrollment management, and of other LMS-related practices or concerns from across the globe that would influence the direction of our products
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for any questions or communications related to the LMS products and evangelize product vision both internally and externally 
  • Working closely and effectively with teams and individuals contributing to product delivery, including data science, product design, engineering, quality assurance, marketing, sales, and support

 

Product Vision and Direction 

  • Working with Product Managers to cultivate viable roadmaps with milestones aligned to customers’ challenges and opportunities in effective enrollment management practices, culminating in highly differentiated and impactful product roadmaps driven by data-enabled possibilities
  • Creating and/or guiding the execution of strategies designed to achieve company-wide and/or Product Organization objectives
  • Working with appropriate resources to ensure cross-company awareness and release readiness as it pertains to the delivery of business strategies or product capabilities
  • Informing executive-level decision-making as it pertains to an assigned product area through the collection and reporting of appropriate metrics and data

 

Product Management 

  • Ensuring product managers are progressing in the evolution of their respective practices and work specifically to coach teams to develop expertise and competency in higher education practices and the application of systems thinking and data-driven design to product solution ideation
  • Working with product area leadership to inform and manage budgeting and strategic planning 
  • Attending to the individual needs and career growth paths of assigned employees
  • Emphasizing and reinforcing the team commitment to cross-company collaboration, Product Organization values, and the overall company mission, vision, and guiding principles 

 

Leadership and Collaboration 

  • Guiding product manager collaboration with Data Science, User Experience, Product Marketing, and other relevant teams to develop persona-based epics, stories, use-cases, and value propositions around actionable analytics in the education sector
  • Communicating and actively seeking feedback throughout the entire organization (including with senior leadership, product teams, support, sales, professional services, marketing, user experience, etc.) to assess and update pricing, competitive analysis, and profitability while ensuring customer adoption and satisfaction
  • Working with User Experience team to align on a plan for researching and understanding the problems of our customers so that product teams can more effectively work to develop and test solutions
  • Collaborating with Data Science team to identify, research, and understand user problems for which appropriate solutions may be productized or leveraged as part of delivering value to customers

 

The Candidate:

Required skills/qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 10-12 years of experience in commercial software product management or relevant industry experience
  • Experience working with Agile development teams
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, including building collaboration and consensus among diverse teams of peers, experts, and senior management to achieve results
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work through conflict to meet objectives and maintain strong relationships across teams with different work styles and personalities
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with a certain degree of ambiguity/autonomy and capable of making sound business decisions
  • Excellent written, communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong strategic thinking and both excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Business acumen and proficiency with quantitative business analysis techniques
  • Strong understanding of web-based technologies and related design concepts
  • Strong customer and student empathy
  • Passion for education
  • Fluency in written and spoken English 

 

Preferred skills/qualifications: 

  • Advanced Degree
  • Experience with LMS platform 
  • Familiarity with postsecondary and secondary education markets

 

While the full salary range for this role is $154,000 - $231,000, the expected hiring range for this opening is $154,000 - $185,000, depending on experience and budget availability. We use national and industry-specific survey data to assist in determining compensation. Additionally, we consider factors such as external market rate, budget for the role, and the compensation rates of current employees performing the same function. Some roles will have variable pay.
