WHAT WILL YOU DO
 
This individual will be training via Route-2 ASCP HT eligibility as a Histo Trainee. Through clinical instruction and on-the-job training, students will complete Alverno’s clinical training program in Histotechnology while employed as a Histotechnology Trainee in Alverno’s Central Laboratory Histology Department for a period of 24 weeks. Alverno’s Histology Program utilizes ASCP’s route 2 certification eligibility to attain the goal of accumulating hours of working experience to become technically proficient in histology procedures. The Histotechnology Trainee must meet program admission requirements prior to employment. Upon program completion and an additional six months’ experience, the Histology Trainee may become eligible to sit for the ASCP certification examination for a Histotechnology Technician (HT).
 
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
 
Meet one of the educational eligibility requirements, as follows: A. Minimum requirement: High School diploma or equivalent and at least 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of academic credit from an accredited college or university in some type of clinical laboratory relevant science. Examples would include any of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences
 
AND 
 
B. Preferred: At least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both).
 
OR
 
C. An associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both).
 
OR 
 
D. Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both).
 
E. Must be accepted into the approved histotechnology program within the next eligibility period and must meet the educational requirements for the program. Academic transcripts are required for proof of education.
