Bureau Assistant Accountant
12 Month Contract
The Bureau Assistant Accountant is responsible for day-to-day administrative, clerical, financial, compliance, and reporting activities. The role ensures that adequate cash is always available in the bureau to meet editorial needs and that monthly reimbursement requests are submitted on time.
He/She is also responsible for implementing and complying with AJMN policies and procedures, TOFA, and statutory regulations, as well as escalating any non-compliance issues. In addition, the Assistant Accountant must ensure that the bureau float, bank accounts, and debit/credit cards are always reconciled and up to date.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Process accurate and timely payments of Invoices, payroll and staff claims also record in accounting system/Template.
- Responsible to review and obtain the necessary approval and supporting documents for all expenses.
- Ensuring the validity and accuracy of expenses claimed, availability of proper supports for all expenses and compliance with AJMN policies and procedures.
- Prepare monthly payroll sheet along with calculations of tax, pension and other statutory obligations.
- Calculate taxes and other statutory obligations as applicable by law in all transactions and make timely payments to authorities.
- Prepare all statutory declarations & submit for filing with related authorities on due dates including corporate tax and Vat.
- Enter financial data into Cash Journals templates and prepare bank reconciliation and cash balances confirmations.
- Maintain records of Fixed Assets, additions/ disposals/ transfers/ verification/ documentation.
- Maintain petty cash in the safe as per approved limit and Responsible for the proper use and safe keeping of the funds in the safe in accordance with AJMN policies and procedures.
- Process business payments through Debit/credit cards. Monitor and reconcile credit card accounts, ensuring all transactions are accurate and documented.
- Liaise with the news staff on all aspects of news gathering costs, including recording and reporting in addition to provide all required logistics.
- Control, issue and keep track of all news story codes/allocate story codes.
- Track actual costs against the cost estimation for each news story via invoices, expenses and obtain required approvals if any variance.
- Process guest payments and related taxes if applicable.
- Perform general office duties such as ordering supplies, managing correspondence, and maintaining office equipment.
- Make hotel and ticket bookings for business travel.
- Handle shipping process and secure required documentation from local authorities.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience Required:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is usually required.
- 3 years of experience in accounting and bookkeeping.
- Knowledge of financial reporting, reconciliation, and journal entries.
- Understanding of local tax laws and regulations.
- Good analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- French speaking is required. Also either Arabic or English
