Manager of Digital Programs - English
Al Jazeera is seeking a Manager of Digital Programs (English) to lead strategic digital initiatives that support its mission to deliver independent, in-depth journalism for a global English-speaking audience. This role will work closely with editorial, product, technology, and audience teams to design and deliver digital programs that enhance storytelling, and audience engagement across platforms.
The role requires an in-depth understanding of digital journalism, program production, audience engagement and the realities of working as part of a 24/7, multi-time-zone media network.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and delivery of cross-platform digital programs that support Al Jazeera's editorial and audience strategies, including digital audio and podcast initiatives
- Partner with editorial leadership across the digital division and the TV to translate newsroom needs into scalable digital solutions and workflows across text, video, social, and audio/podcast production
- Manage end-to-end delivery of digital initiatives, including scope, timelines, budgets, risks, and dependencies
- Work closely with creative, data, and design teams to support digital storytelling tools and platforms, including podcast hosting, distribution and analytics
- Support initiatives across AJ's digital ecosystem, including website, mobile, social, video, newsletters, podcasts, and emerging platforms
- Collaborate with podcast editors, producers, and audio teams to improve workflows, audience reach, and discoverability across major platforms
- Ensure digital programs align with AJE’s editorial standards, ethical journalism principles, and accessibility requirements
- Use audience data and performance insights to measure impact and continuously improve digital programs and audience growth
- Manage vendors or external partners where required
- Mentor or supervise project team members as appropriate
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, digital media, communications, technology, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience managing digital programs, digital products, or complex projects in a newsroom or media organization
- Strong understanding of digital news publishing, audience engagement, and platform strategy
- Proven experience working in fast-paced, deadline-driven editorial environments
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly between editorial and technical teams
- Experience working with globally distributed teams
- Experience in producing award winning content – documentaries, programs or podcasts
- Experience working in international media
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Al Jazeera's editorial mission and coverage priorities
- Experience with analytics, audience development, or newsroom tools (CMS, video platforms, social publishing tools)
- Program or project management certification (PMP, Agile, Scrum, or similar)
- People management or mentoring experience
- Good command of the Arabic language
