Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario (“the AGO”) is one of the largest art museums in North America, with a collection of close to 100,000 works. At AGO Art Camp, we believe in fostering creativity and imagination in young artists. As part of the renowned Art Gallery of Ontario, we provide a unique and enriching experience for campers to explore their artistic talents while enjoying the fun of summer camp and we need great people to help us accomplish this!
We are currently seeking a Temporary Full-time, AGO Art Camp Coordinator to join our Education & Programming team. Under the direction of the Manager, Studio Programming and Learning, the incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the camp program. They will oversee and support the Lead Counsellors in their duties (Administration, Programming, Health & Wellness) as well as the Counsellors and volunteers. They will develop and implement a comprehensive counsellor and volunteer training program for the AGO Art Camp in collaboration with the manager and the Lead Staff. The AGO Art Camp Coordinator will demonstrate strong conflict resolution skills and provides excellent front line customer service (in-person, by phone and email), liaising with parents/guardians, campers, AGO staff, volunteers and patrons of the gallery. They will mentor the Lead Staff, Counsellors and volunteers throughout the summer, demonstrating best practices in behavioural management, customer service, program planning and delivery, health and safety awareness, and administrative processes. They will lead staff meetings, oversees volunteer evaluations, and assists with lead staff and counsellor evaluations. They will cover for Lead Staff absences and other staff absences as required. They will plan and lead camp wide activities in collaboration with the Manager, lead staff, counsellors and volunteers. The AGO Art Camp Coordinator will support camp staff and volunteers indoors and outdoors as needed to run programming, promote well-being and maintain a safe camp environment at all times. They will write an end of summer report, summarizing all recommendations and suggestions for the following summer.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
- Enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary program in arts administration, visual arts, education, physical education, health and recreation or other appropriate areas of study (or within 24 months of graduation)
- Experience in child behaviour management and supervising groups of children (aged 5-13) in an indoor/outdoor camp and/or educational environment
- Enjoys working with children and youth
- Strong computer skills (word processing, data processing) including familiarity with excel, word and outlook
- Experience with CampBrain software is an asset
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational and time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent problem solving and team-building and training skills
- Strong interest in the visual arts
- Standard First Aid CPR/AED Level C is required before start of employment
