Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario (“the AGO”) is one of the largest art museums in North America, with a collection of close to 100,000 works. Through the collection as well as collaborations with leading museums around the world, the AGO presents wide-ranging exhibitions and programs to approximately 1 million visitors annually.

We are currently seeking a Temporary Part-Time, Adult Course Instructor to join our Education & Programming team. Under the direction of the Director, Engagement & Learning, the incumbent will conduct art courses; demonstrate and discuss the techniques and materials particular to the course medium with specialization in painting and textile design (and broadly painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, graphic arts, mixed media and/or other studio techniques, art theory) and target audiences year-round.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
 
  • Specialization in painting
  • Broad knowledge and demonstrated experience working in the appropriate medium for the course(s) (drawing, sculpture, painting, printmaking, graphic art, mixed media, art history/theory) as well as the relevant conceptual background, techniques, materials and practices for instructing in those media/subjects.
  • Broad knowledge and directly related experience with teaching methodologies, techniques and practices, relevant to adults as required by the course.  Demonstrated experience teaching at the age level of programming for students.
  • Public exhibition and/or publication of their work in the previous two-years as well as post-secondary studies in education and studio art; knowledge of art history.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, public relations, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well as part of an instructional team
  • Working knowledge of the AGO collection.
