ART + AUDIENCE + LEARNING
Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the largest art museums in North America, attracting approximately one million visitors annually. The AGO Collection of more than 120,000 works of art ranges from cutting-edge contemporary art to significant works by Indigenous and Canadian artists and European masterpieces.
The Art Gallery of Ontario’s collection, including the holdings of the Edward P. Taylor Library & Archives, represents the richest public holdings of art and archival material by Canadian artist David Blackwood (1941-2022). The AGO, with the generous support of Anita Blackwood, is creating a one-semester Blackwood studentship to contribute to the education and training of a student in archival studies through the opportunity to assist with the cataloguing and preservation of David Blackwood’s archives and related collections. Under the general direction of the Rosamond Ivey Special Collections Archivist & Head, Library & Archives, the incumbent will support the AGO’s Mission of Art + Learning + Access by facilitating use and access to the AGO’s archival assets. Under the direction of the AGO Archivist, they will perform a range of duties relating to the coordination, growth and use of the institutional archives and Special Collections in all media, including public service activities, responding to research requests, and processing. In keeping with the intention of the studentship, we encourage current students to apply.
