Location: Howard Beach, Queens NY 
Hours: Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm (1 hr. lunch) 
Pay: $21.25 per hour
 

OVERVIEW OF PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the IDD Program Director, the Pre-Vocational Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing programming that is challenging, inspiring, and in-line with the valued outcomes of the individuals who receive services. Programming should be person-centered, foster community integration, and focus on skill acquisition and, or retention while remaining compliant to agency, state, and federal requirements. This is a management position that provides supervision to the Direct Support Professionals in the program.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with the IDD Program Director to coordinate and implement program goals.
  • Works with the IDD Program Director and Community Site Developer to identify/establish potential sites, as well as build community relationships. 
  • Support people served to achieve Valued Outcomes as it pertains to the Life Plan & Staff Action Plan.
  • Complete daily documentation of services according to OPWDD regulations
  • Complete monthly summary reports of individual’s progress according to OPWDD regulations.
  • Works alongside IDD Program Director to ensure completion of Annual Assessments as required.
  • Provide transportation to various volunteer sites in the community.
  • Support people served to perform various tasks related to soft skills/job readiness skills.   
  • Actively develop and run group lesson plans/activities as it relates to OPWDD’s Work Readiness Curriculum.
  • Prepares for and attends Life Plan and other team meetings, and utilizes the information gathered to assist with the development of Staff Action Plans.
  • Monitors the electronic health record (i.e., eVero) to ensure complete, accurate and timely completion of service delivery as required.
  • Monitors service delivery as required to ensure quality and adherence to NADSP Core Competencies, Code of Ethics, Staff Action Plan and Safeguards. Take correction actions as necessary and immediately notify Supervisor of concerns.
  • Creates and maintains a healthy and productive work environment by modeling positive behaviors that teach patience, professionalism, and teamwork.
  • Follow and adhere to all agency and program policy and procedures, including HIPAA, Confidentiality, Accident / Incident Reporting, Corporate Culture Playbook and implementing the Corporate Compliance Plan and related policies and procedures, and reporting facility and/or program needs to the Supervisor. 
  • Actively participates in supervision for professional growth and development.
  • Reports to work promptly and adhere to the assigned schedule.
  • Complete all required initial and annual training as well as ongoing training to increase knowledge.
  • Builds and maintains professional relationships with staff, colleagues, and members of the community.
  • Attends department and agency meetings as requested.
  • Maintains a valid NYS driver’s license in good standing and operates agency vehicles as needed.
  • Perform other duties as requested/assigned.
 
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONAL / ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT:

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with people with special needs preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of OPWDD regulation as they pertain to Community Based Pre-Vocational services (CBPV) preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
