ABOUT THE ROLE
The Carbon Project Operations team supports, develops and manages projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and creates opportunities to monetize the environmental benefits generated by those projects through participation in multiple programs operating in both voluntary and compliance markets. As an Associate on the Carbon Projects team, you will work closely with our project partners and be responsible for keeping projects on track for success. You will support the collection and processing of project data to meet reporting and verification requirements.
This is a full-time, exempt role reporting to a Project Manager within the Carbon Markets - Technical Operations team and is based within a commutable distance to one of our offices including San Francisco, CA, Portland Maine, or New York, NY. WHAT YOU’LL DO
In this role, you will support the management of GHG emission reduction and/or removal projects as required by multiple programs, including those adhering to various standards and registries in voluntary carbon markets and clean fuel standards in transportation markets. This work entails a range of activities, including onboarding new project partners and maintaining these relationships, collecting, processing, and analyzing numerous complex data sets, preparing all components required for project applications and reporting, and supporting the associated validation and verification processes. More specifically, this role will focus on the following activities:
- Data collection and analysis, quality control, maintenance of carbon intensity models.
- Innovate data processing techniques to maintain efficient, streamlined, and transparent worksheets.
- Analyze and track project emissions reductions or carbon intensities.
- Support the verification and validation of our projects. Work with project managers to prepare verification packages and to submit necessary documents in a timely manner. Coordinate directly with verifiers and support the response to their findings and corrective action requests.
- Track the receipt of relevant project data and outstanding needs. Ensure that such project monitoring procedures are planned and consistent with regulatory requirements and are carried out according to the project’s monitoring plan.

ABOUT YOU
You are a highly-motivated, mission-driven environmental professional eager to take action against climate change by enabling transportation decarbonization and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. You have a quantitative background, analytical mindset, robust data literacy, and pay attention to detail. You also have a proven ability to quickly understand different data types and develop solutions to data and reporting issues as they arise. You have strong project management and record-keeping competencies, and are eager to become an expert in greenhouse gas accounting and carbon credits. You are an excellent communicator and highly motivated to apply your chemistry and other sciences knowledge to impact our environment positively.
WHAT WE SEEK
- Up to 2 years work experience in a corporate environment
- Four-year degree, ideally based in engineering or physical sciences, and/or equivalent combination of professional experience and education
- Well-organized with high attention to detail
- Proven excellence in building operational models in Excel
- Ability to build trust with internal and external stakeholders
- Quick learner who finds nuanced and complex regulation engaging
- Knowledge of greenhouse gasses and exposure to carbon footprinting
- Strong technical writing skills
HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS
In this role, you will work alongside other members of the Carbon and Transportation Markets teams to achieve their strategic goals. Success factors specific to this role include:
Within the First 30 Days:
- Successfully complete onboarding and training programs for new hires.
- Schedule and conduct introductory meetings with all team members to understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the Company's mission, vision, and strategic priorities for the Carbon Markets and Transportation Markets business units.
- Grow understanding of core programs the team operates in (e.g., clean fuels such CA Low Carbon Fuel Standard, Canadian Clean Fuel Regulations and carbon markets) and their associated regulations and protocols.
Within the First 6 Months:
- Contribute to ongoing projects by processing and analyzing data sets with accuracy and efficiency.
- Work independently on assigned tasks related to clean fuel projects, carbon credit generation, reporting, and verifications.
- Contribute meaningfully to the creation of technical reports, presentations, and life cycle assessments for clean fuel projects, and monitoring reports and calculations for carbon projects.
Within the First Year:
- Independently managing 4-6 offset projects with minimal oversight and are able to contribute meaningfully to the overall team workload.
- You may also be supporting low carbon fuel pathways.
- You will have a strong understanding of the carbon offset programs and standards with a broad understanding of how to assess the viability of a new offset project.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Compensation: The starting base pay for this position is $70,000 to $90,000 in the US. The total compensation package for the successful candidate in this role may exceed the base pay as it includes other incentive pay. The base pay is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

- Supplemental Pay: This position may be eligible for discretionary bonus programs including the company’s profit sharing program and participation in a variable compensation program.
