PR & Communications Director

Communications & PR London, United Kingdom

Description

Position at Havas Media

Group Communications Director (Media)Havas UK

Reporting To: Group CMO

Office Location: HKX Building, 3 Pancras Square, Kings Cross, London

About us:

Havas is one of the world’s largest global communications groups, operating in over 100 countries. The Group is made up of two major divisions: Havas Creative Group (the creative agencies) and Havas Media Group (HMG), the media agencies. HMG UK & Ireland today employs over 900 people and is made up of five leading media brands; Havas Media, Arena Media, Fullsix, LuxHub and Target Media, PR & experiential agency HSE Cake and specialist brands, Socialyse, Mobext and Ecselis.

Our ambition is to be the UK’s most integrated, agile media and marketing services group with data, content and entertainment at our core. It’s an exciting time for the business, with our recent move to the new ‘Havas Village’ in King’s Cross, where all UK agencies sit under one roof and share one common purpose; to bring media and creative closer together for the benefit of our clients.

The team

The new business and marketing team – spanning both media and creative agencies within Havas UK and reporting into the Group CMO – has five primary areas of focus:

  1. Generating new business opportunities for Havas UK with a primary focus on Havas Media, Havas London, Arena Media and Havas helia.
  2. Winning pitches.
  3. Creating relationships with new prospects and maintaining relationships with intermediaries.
  4. Generating noise around work and wins across the core brands.
  5. Maintaining (and furthering) the external perception of the Havas UK brand.

The role

A core role within the team, the Group Communications Director (Media) reports into the Group CMO and has a primary focus on the media agencies in London (although they must also understand the creative businesses and be able to talk with confidence about all of the agencies across HKX).

It is the primary communications role for Havas UK’s core media agencies, ultimately responsible for all media outreach, journalist enquiries and Havas UK’s overall profile and reputation in the media (specifically Havas Media and Arena Media).

Our objective is simple: to achieve Agency of the Year for Havas Media by 2020.

Because this is ultimately a Group team, there are few firm lines and the Group Communications Director (Media) should be able to pick up creative-based requests when necessary, and vice-versa. Similarly, the team is not hierarchical in structure and the Group Communications Directors should be able to pitch into the wider new business effort when required, as well as receiving support from the New Business Executives. The mindset is one of collaboration and team – not process and reporting lines.

Alongside the New Business Director (Media), the Group Communications Director should be the ‘go-to’ person for Havas Media and Arena Media.

Specifically, responsibilities include:

  • Researching, drafting, coordinating approvals and selling-in of press releases for Havas Media, Arena Media and Havas UK. Scope includes new business wins, key hires, new campaign launches, and other company news.
  • Acting as the press office for the above media agencies – being the first port of call for all journalist enquiries and fielding all requests from the media.
  • Pitching interviews and comment and pitching and drafting thought pieces for agency leadership team.
  • Managing and arranging platform opps
  • Arranging meetings between journalists and agency leadership team, including scheduling and drafting briefing notes.
  • Crisis management when necessary.
  • Drafting and arranging design (where necessary) for all media-related corporate submissions, including but not limited to Campaign’s Agency of the Year, School Reports, Nielsen 100, Best Places to Work, IPA Women of Tomorrow, Ad Age’s Women to Watch, Fast Co’s Most Innovative Companies, etc.
  • Drafting and arranging design for any end-of-year / review books.
  • Managing content for social media profiles and social strategy for the above media agencies and Havas UK (including working with the new business team to ensure prospecting activity is amplified through owned channels).
  • Internal comms (including drafting announcements from the agency leadership team and PR highlights emails).
  • Creating and manging the intermediary newsletter with support from the broader team collating coverage and sharing it with the team.
  • Managing the awards entries and budgets, supporting on content
  • Support the wider team on delivering the Group’s events calendar.
  • Support the New Business Directors when applicable.
  • Work with UK Head of Comms on other large projects.
