Havas Formula is seeking is a Director to join our New York office. The role requires nine years of progressive PR experience.

We are a national public relations agency with offices in NY, Chicago, Miami, LA and San Diego. We have premier clients across the country and were recently ranked a “Best Place to Work” by the Holmes Report.

The role plays a key strategic, management, and leadership role, working alongside other Directors and Associate/Vice Presidents for the development of client and new business proposals and presentations. Directors participate in the strategic planning process for each account, maintain strong client relationship and create new campaign ideas and initiatives to drive traditional and social media programs.  The role assists with budget and hours management as well as ensures all client KPI’s are being met. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Media | Influencer Relations

  • Meets and/or exceeds coverage goals as established by division VP
  • Assists with contract negotiations for influencers, brand spokespersons, and celebrities

Account Management

  • Works with A/VP and client contacts on all elements of launching a new account (includes timelines/planning calendars, messaging architecture session, press kit materials, media training, chain of communications and approvals, etc.)
  • Acts as a senior strategic partner who challenges clients with smart thinking and offers strategic guidance and client counsel
  • Identifies key priorities/deliverables for clients and helps set and manage realistic expectations as part of day-to-day communications and dialogue
  • Manages annual account reviews and new annual PR plans for continuing clients
  • Oversees monthly activity reports
  • Maintains strong client contact and creates new campaign ideas and initiatives
  • Works with A/VP to regularly monitor client’s program goals; addresses challenges and successes in meeting goals, and reevaluates as necessary
  • Identifies opportunities for incremental projects
  • Actively participates in creative brainstorms in group and team meetings and may create action plans from recommendations
  • Identifies and addresses issues before they become problems with clients (and staff)

Team Management | Mentoring

  • Acts as a liaison between A/VP and junior team members; problem solves as needed
  • Proactively communicates with senior management as to what you and the team need in order to be successful and proactively provides status updates and next steps
  • Supervises team’s tracking of trends and current events for clients to ensure consistent coverage and helps them develop story angles
  • Communicates priorities on a daily and weekly basis to junior staff and ensures reports are submitted on time and deadlines are met
  • Regularly monitors and manages team’s billed hours for respective clients against monthly retainers
  • Connects with each employee on a personal level, offering help and guidance in overcoming challenges, personal growth, etc.
  • Assists with identifying potential new hires and may participate in recruitment process via interviews
  • May be involved in developing and providing reviews for junior staffers
  • May lead program development through team meetings and brainstorming sessions to generate new creative direction and improve client service in the absence of a A/VP
  • Helps team process and improve their writing and presentation competencies

Writing | Editing

  • Reviews and edits monthly and quarterly activity and media coverage reports as developed by junior staff and distributes to clients
  • Final editor and reviewer of all press releases, pitch letters and communication materials written by junior team members prior to client distribution
  • Contributes to the development of client presentations

Events | Campaigns Management

  • Finalizes event and launch strategy documents
  • Oversees end to end events execution and special campaigns and ensures all logistics are completed to the client standards
  • Oversees event budgets and provides regular updates to client on event requirements

New Business

  • Assists A/VP with creative ideas for new business proposals
  • May attend and present new business presentations, meetings and scouting opportunities (e.g., trade shows)
  • May participate in new business proposals

Agency Contributions

  • Participates in agency’s Media Boot Camp, Formula University, Who’s Next and other development programs
  • Contributes positively to the agency culture, atmosphere and values and exudes a positive outlook on his/her team
  • Establishes professional and respectful relationships with staff
  • Monitors and records time in agency’s Bill4Time system

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Experience

  • Nine years of progressive PR experience.
  • Sound understanding of budgeting and finance management and experience managing a team and multiple client accounts. Successful track record of developing integrated public relations programs. Experience in influencer marketing and social media.
