The Role:


Working with the client planning teams and the cross-agency planners, you will have overall strategic responsibility for Team O2. You will also be expected to contribute to new business and pitching work.

This is an exciting opportunity to not only craft and shape the strategic direction of brand and product-driven campaigns, but also redefine the way O2 do marketing. We need a visionary self-starter, with strong creative thinking skills who shows a passion for making planning 'future fit', to shape planning protocols, products and to create a planning culture fit for Havas but with a distinct O2 flavour.

As part of the Team O2 leadership team, you will lead and define thought-leadership, and be a key representative not only of your agency but of Havas as a whole and a key connector within the group and village. We want you to make a meaningful contribution to our client’s business, what we do and how we do it.

Responsibilities include:


Key client strategic leadership


As part of the leadership team on Team O2, you will be expected to establish relationships with key clients and hold high level strategic and business conversations with client stakeholders.


New business


You will be expected to work on and lead new business efforts both within your media agency but also within the media group as required. You will provide strategic leadership, clarity and ensure the team are aligned and deliver.


You will be expected to contribute to new business leads, through networking, industry events etc.


Overview and management of all client strategic output

 You will need to fully be abreast on the strategic need, opportunity and current work on your client base. To report regularly to the leaders of the business and to ensure the client base and opportunities are effectively managed and resourced.


You will be expected to work input into new ways of working and optimize our business process to maximize the opportunities for insights to guide and improve our work.


Development of strategy, media planning tools, skills and process


You will be an ambassador for meaningful brands, our village offering and tools but should be a contributor to how these can be improved.


You will need to continually improve and evolve the quality of strategy and planning within your media agency and how this cascades through to research, data, creative and media activation divisions.


Development of planning culture in your agency


As well as spending 2 days a week at the creative agency  as part of the Planning Hub, you will be expected to create a distinct way of working within Team O2 to make sure the team back at the ranch are galvanized and enthused by the strategies.  You will be expected to develop training initiatives, off sites, forums, speakers etc. etc. to establish and maintain this within the client planning teams.


Thought leadership & speaking


You will be expected to attend and speak at industry bodies and events. You will also be expected to contribute to Havas marketing efforts through thought leadership pieces on a regular basis




You will be expected to identify award winning work from your agency and to help ensure this is delivered in a winning format



Experience required:


You need to have strong basics developed from a media agency and show a strong comprehension of how media ‘works’ as an active connection with audiences and to demonstrate delivery in strategic communication that connect business needs of the client with string creative or lateral solutions.


  • Ability to identify the problem before rushing straight to ‘an answer’. To have a strong informed and intuitive point of view quickly – all good planning comes from an early hypothesis that is then tested and shaped


  • A ‘grown up’ with passion for the work over ownership of it –, if we do our work well we make other people look good and that means involving them, we are only as good as those around us



  • To display empathy with the consumer – it is our job to be the consumer in the room and to respect and look after them


  • Good writing and storytelling skills – someone that can see the thread or thought in a body of work


  • Lateral thinkers, who can see creative potential solutions in the world around them not in rigid media siloes


  • Restlessness and a healthy degree of constructive cynicism – our industry is in constant beta test as technology and consumers evolve, strategy leads need to help identify opportunities and ways to ‘be better’


  • A point of view on the world, who can contribute to thought leadership, speaking engagements etc. with thoughts and ideas that are ‘theirs’ – we don’t want corporate reps, we want genuine and interesting people


  • Presence – people who are genuine, honest, an open but that can bring gravitas, energy and personality to a room – a person that people can trust and believe in and be inspired by.


  • Business mindedness – it’s imperative that this role is a trusted business advisor for our client base and can link strategies to results


  • Experience in people management, to mentor, develop, resource and manage a team


  • Track record as a self-reliant player who can be trusted to deliver to a high standard, simply, comprehensively and within deadlines and showing organizational ability, balance big picture with eye for detail and ability to ensure the team ticks all the boxes


  • Fully experienced in the world of communications planning –understanding the world in which we operate as media agency and the competitive media landscape we operate within
