Field Engineer / Field Technician
Schnabel is a leader in specialty design-build underground construction. We are looking for a Field Engineer / Field Technician to join our team in Bethesda, MD. Founded in 1959, Schnabel continues to grow with a people first approach. Family owned and operated, with a clear vision for expansion we are ready to add to our tenured team. The main responsibility for this role is to support our project management team with engineering calculations and data collection, and general quality control.
Our projects will be based in the Mid-Atlantic with a majority in the greater DC Metro. Our typical scope of work includes installation of soldier piles, micropiles, lagging, walers, tiebacks, and braces for support of excavation projects. We also take on challenging projects with underpinning, grouting, tunneling, and unique structural support as part of our scope. Candidates who have direct construction experience and familiarity with our company’s traditional scope of work are preferred.
Job Responsibilities
- Set up and Data collection of survey monitoring points
- Create and manage data sets in Excel
- Communicate with project team both internally and externally
- Engineering calculations
- Provide quality control/quality assurance on projects
- Organizing and handling the submittal process
- Working in the field and traveling to our projects
- Field work is outdoors and open to the elements
Qualifications
- Ability to learn how to operate field data collectors, digital levels, and GPS units
- Experience with a total station is a plus
- Competent in coordinate geometry and excel spreadsheets
- Able to work independently, solve problems, be organized, and accountable
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent computer skills with a high proficiency for office products including word, excel, and outlook
- Ability to lift 50 lbs over difficult terrain
- 1 year of experience working on a survey field crew or successful internship with equal responsibilities
- Minimum of 2 year degree with some type of surveying coursework being completed
