Schnabel is looking for an Assistant Safety Manager to protect the most valuable part of our business – our people. We are leaders in underground construction and have been in operation since 1959. Safety is a key part of our culture. We want to add another forward thinker that will keep our people safe. This position reports directly to our Safety Director. This role is regional and will require extensive travel from time to time. This is not job site specific or site specific and it is Full-Time work, not contract.

 

As an Assistant Safety Manager

Work in a team environment to oversee and make decisions related to project safety, health, and environmental policies such as:

  • Job site visits conducting safety audits on personnel, equipment, and materials
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement safety procedures and policies for the benefit of employees
  • Research and implement new materials handling processes
  • Analyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies based on available facts
  • Prepare and conduct internal safety training sessions
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (OSHA, MSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • Research regulations and policies and institute changes to ensure compliance
  • Track incident metrics and apply findings
  • Lead injury and incident investigations and evaluations
  • Create Job Hazard Analyses for project specific tasks, review them with the project team and make any necessary changes as needed before or during work activities
  • Assist operation managers with project specific requirements
  • Travel required, including substantial amount of field visits

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety science is preferred but not required
  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in the construction industry
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA and EPA standards regarding construction
  • Ability to train, influence and motivate team members
  • Heavy travel through ground and air
  • Ability to speak, read and write both Spanish and English preferred but not required
  • Self-motivated, great time management skills, strong work ethic and business integrity
