POSITION SUMMARY

IREX seeks a Senior Program Officer to provide vision and leadership for programmatic and curricular planning, budgetary and subaward oversight, and participant emergency management for Leadership in Business Institutes on the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage relationships and outreach with partner institutions, including academic, corporate, non-profit, and government partners, and vendors
  • Provide partner institutions with program and participant support including curricular design, logistics, policy compliance, and emergency management
  • Track program expenditures and develop and monitor partner budgets and subaward agreements
  • Contribute to and manage the production of program deliverables including participant materials, handbooks, resources for program partners, and program reports
  • Manage a wide range of participant information and data, maintaining accuracy and completeness
  • Support project monitoring and evaluation, analyze results to inform project implementation
  • Conduct research on existing programming, possible partners, design approaches, and potential personnel
  • Draft communications, reports, and resources
  • Assist with editing, proofreading, and formatting
  • Supervise subcontractors and consultants, and provide direction to a junior staff direct report
  • Manage administrative aspects of the program including participant application, review, selection, and placement processes
  • Represent IREX and Leadership Practice interests both within and outside of IREX
  • Supporting quarterly program reporting process
  • Lead internal learning, reflection and knowledge sharing around project components and/or best practices
  • Support project leadership in all aspects of program implementation
  • Other duties as assigned

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, international education, international affairs, international development, or related field; Master's preferred
  • Minimum of five years managing international education programs demonstrating progressive experience, with a focus on exchange programming and/or professional training/development programs
  • Demonstrated experience with program and participant support including curricular design, logistics, policy compliance, and participant conduct and emergency management
  • Knowledge of procurement procedures and sub-award management
  • Experience creating, managing, and monitoring program budgets
  • Familiarity with content design and experience implementing trainings, panels, and sessions
  • Experience using data management tools, maintaining data integrity, managing records, and analyzing data
  • Experience working in and/or interest in developing capacity to support project systems including Salesforce, SharePoint, SurveyGizmo, MailChimp, Formstack, Canvas LMS, and Submittable
  • Familiarity with U.S. Department of State grants (preferred)
  • Demonstrated understanding of Sub-Saharan Africa and recent developments in the region (preferred)
  • International work, travel, or study experience

  • Demonstrated ability to plan strategically and creatively to meet specified objectives with strong ability to anticipate challenges and generate solutions
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, professionalism in written correspondence and report writing, excellent presentation and oral communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Excel (required)
  • Data management skills, including strong Excel skills and Salesforce (or comparable CRS/database) experience
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, including the ability to prioritize
  • Able to work independently and as a team member with consistent ability to take initiative, meet deadlines, and be flexible
  • Availability to travel domestically and internationally as well as support scheduled program activities in the evenings and on weekends
