Vice President, Children’s Sales

SUMMARY:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Vice President, Children’s Sales at Hachette Book Group. This candidate will be responsible for driving sales and setting direction for a team of key account sales professionals, responsible for selling physical books to chains, wholesalers and mass merchants.
The ideal candidate will have a track record in growing book sales innovatively, leading teams, as well as knowledge of sales and positioning of Children’s titles in the marketplace.  This person will have excellent customer relationships and the ability to foster positive and productive cross-functional relationships with publishers and our larger sales organization.

The role is NYC based, reports into the EVP of Sales and the candidate will need to be in the office two days a week as part of the hybrid working policy at HBG.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide a vision and strategic direction for our children’s sales team, with focus on growing our key authors and brands. 
  • Guide and inform decisions on matters including sales estimates, budgets, inventory, co-op, promotional opportunities, etc.
  • Work closely with the team to set sales goals and analyze sales reports, focusing on growth within our frontlist and backlist publishing programs.
  • Work closely with our customers to drive bestsellers and seasonal titles while maximizing marketshare across the HBG Children’s publishing list. 
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • 10-15 years of experience in publishing, a focus on children’s books essential
  • Proven ability to create retail promotions and develop other strategies to increase sales
  • Established and strong account relationships
  • A successful leader who has experience motivating sales teams for success with prior managerial experience
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the aptitude to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to build supportive and constructive relationships within and outside of the organization; takes the lead in inspiring others to work together for mutual benefit.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively while also ensuring accuracy of work through attention to detail.

The compensation range for this position is $160,000 - $190,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
