Excel Academy was founded in 2003 with the mission to provide a high-quality education to students in East Boston and Chelsea. Over the years, we have grown from one middle school to a network of four schools with 1,400 students in grades 5 to 12. About the Role
Instructional Monitors (IMs) will provide in-person assistance to a small cohort of high needs students whose families choose to send them to school to access remote instruction. IMs will provide crucial support to virtual content teachers delivering remote instruction by:

  • supporting students who experience technological issues
  • providing real-time notification to relevant team members (content teacher, GLT, SST, specialists, service providers) regarding student need
  • supporting students to access online learning through the use of the following: 
    • reminders to use resources provided by the virtual content teacher (e.g. graphic organizers, guided notes, etc.)
    • 1:1 check-ins and relationship building
    • Frequent positive reinforcement
  • providing feedback to the virtual content teacher regarding pacing and student work completion
  • upholding the school's vision for creating and maintaining a fun, safe and productive school and classroom environment 
  • leading or co-leading Mind Up, advisory and/or unstructured times, such as recess and movement breaks
  • monitoring entry and dismissal of students, including administering COVID screening questions
  • supporting communication loop between home and school by providing virtual content teachers and advisor with relevant information to share with families

Schedule & Benefits

As part of the school re-opening team, this role will be on-site, regardless of whether all schools are operating in a hybrid or fully remote model. 

  • Hours: Monday - Friday (8:00-4:00pm) we are open to considering candidates for reduced hours.
    • For example, we can offer reduced hours or reduced work days to accommodate personal obligations or a college schedule

Preference will be given to applicants who also:

  • Have experience in a public or charter school setting
  • Speak Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic fluently
  • Can speak to the importance of rigorous classroom instruction and culture
  • Can speak to the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion
