About the Position

The Senior Manager, Clinical Finance will have an exciting opportunity to be the lead business partner, providing support the company’s Clinical team by leading all financial aspects, including budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, management reporting and variance analysis for operating costs associated with existing and new clinical development plans. The Senior Manager will collaborate with the Clinical team to drive financial excellence and forecast accuracy in cost impact through assumption planning, scenario planning, contract negotiations.

The role is responsible for ensuring that proposed financial plans are aligned with developing and executed clinical development paths. This role will be responsible for guidance of costs through assumption building, measuring, and optimizing. 

This position will report to the Director FP&A Clinical & Manufacturing and will be based in Seattle, WA.

Responsibilities (include but limited to):

  • Provide financial business support to the Clinical organization by acting as their business partner and leading FP&A activities, and overseeing all other finance related needs
  • Collaborate with Clinical FP&A members to understand current and future status of ongoing clinical trials
  • Play an integral role in planning, recording, and reporting of all elements of departmental costs for forecast, budgets, long range plans, and scenario building
  • Partner and build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, supporting Clinical projects and issues as appropriate
  • Be an integral member of clinical program development teams to provide financial and strategic guidance
  • Provide transparent communication to finance line-management using status reports on accomplishments, risk/challenges, and risk mitigation recommendations
  • Collaborate with Clinical team to analyze cost savings opportunities, develop project plans along with monitor progress and results for clinical trials and programs
  • Drive the timely preparation of budgetary, forecast, and long-range planning assumptions and cost inputs to the overall planning process
  • Partner closely with Clinical team to understand evolving timelines and assumptions that can impact current trials along with dependent trials in indication development plan, and make top level assumptions and provisions to ensure the net forecast is accurate
  • Develop & maintain dashboards reflecting key metrics (i.e., cost/patient, cost of trial by phase, cost by indication, etc.) to provide to line management and Clinical Sr. Leadership team
  • Ensure tight collaboration with the wider finance team to communicate and educate about activities impacting other R&D functions
  • Prepare decision support analysis, financial modeling, and ad-hoc analytical support to optimize resource allocation decisions for ongoing and future clinical trials
  • Develop and implement best financial practices across the Clinical organization.
  • Maintain internal control environment to the highest standards of compliance and integrity including compliance with Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX)
  • Supervise, develop, and lead team members by managing timelines and performance, setting goals and objectives, and providing ongoing mentorship and training
  • Proactively identify issues and opportunities, and the means to leverage or address them


  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant manufacturing financial experience, including 5 years in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • Experience with designing and assessing financial impact of clinical trials in executed and future development plans
  • Experience with building relationships with Clinical business partners
  • Ability to build & reflect key metrics and assumptions for clinical activities in financial plans
  • Highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), especially around pharmaceutical product costing
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential in this dynamic, collaborative and culturally diverse work environment
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy, and conciseness
  • Ability to collaborate well on cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a changing environment
