The Senior Manager, Manufacturing Finance will have an exciting opportunity to be the lead business partner, providing support to the company’s Technical & Manufacturing Operations (T&MO) team by leading all financial aspects, including budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, management reporting and variance analysis for operating costs, cost of goods (COGs) and gross margin. The Senior Manager will collaborate with the T&MO team to drive financial excellence in cost and inventory management and be a key contributor to strategic projects and objectives.

The role is responsible for ensuring that COGs are well understood, planned and accounted for, throughout WIP, bulk drug product, finished goods, both with the current and future CMO. This includes ensuring that the company ERP and planning system is designed and implemented to facilitate all cost accounting and reporting. 

This position will report to the Director, R&D Finance and will be based in Seattle, WA. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide financial business support to the T&MO organization by leading FP&A activities and overseeing all other finance related needs
  • Play an integral role in planning, recording, and reporting of all elements of departmental costs, gross margin, cost of goods, and inventory for both P&L and Balance Sheet
  • Lead, in partnership with external advisors, a project to define and document relevant end-to-end manufacturing and supply chain interactions for inventory/COGs planning, and execute their respective financial and accounting impacts.
  • Implementation of product cost models as well as related product costing/inventory tracking policies and procedures.
  • In collaboration with the accounting team, recommend design for U.S. GAAP compliant product costing methodology, inventory valuation policy, along with necessary support process enhancements
  • Partner and build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, supporting T&MO projects and issues as appropriate
  • Provide transparent communication to finance line-management using status reports on accomplishments, risk/challenges, and risk mitigation recommendations
  • Collaborate with T&MO team to analyze cost savings opportunities, develop project plans and monitor progress and results for both Clinical and Commercial Manufacturing
  • Drive the timely preparation of budgetary, forecast and long-range planning assumptions and cost inputs to the overall planning process
  • Ensure tight collaboration with the wider finance team, who will require future COGs modelling for strategic planning and ad hoc product valuation analysis
  • Develop and maintain a variety of tech ops functional metrics/KPIs and dashboards to ensure the optimal operation of the business
  • Prepare decision support analysis, financial modeling and ad-hoc analytical support to optimize resource allocation decisions and minimize manufacturing and inventory costs including minimizing obsolescence and write offs
  • Collaborate with T&MO team to optimize safety stock and inventory levels to guarantee required customer service levels
  • Develop and implement best financial practices across the T&MO organization.
  • Maintain internal control environment to the highest standards of compliance and integrity including compliance with Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX)
  • Supervise, develop and lead team members by managing timelines and performance, setting goals and objectives, and providing ongoing mentorship and training
  • Proactively identify issues and opportunities, and the means to leverage or address them

Qualifications and Experience

  • CA/CPA/MBA
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant manufacturing financial experience, including 5 years in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • Experience with Cost and Activity Based and Project Based Reporting Systems
  • Experienced with Tier 1 ERP solution preferred
  • Highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), especially around pharmaceutical product costing
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential in this dynamic, collaborative and culturally diverse work environment
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy and conciseness
  • Ability to collaborate well on cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a changing environment
