Zymeworks is seeking a Director, Total Rewards to join our People team. The successful candidate will lead the design and implementation of total rewards strategies, along with evaluating and enhancing existing programs to align with our culture and values and distinguish Zymeworks as a preferred employer. The Director, Total Rewards will also coordinate the annual performance and compensation review processes, administer North American employee benefit programs and compile compensation information for Board of Director and executive-level meetings.

This position will report to the Senior Director, People Operations and can be based in either Vancouver, BC or Seattle, WA. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Conceptualize and drive implementation and adherence to a total rewards philosophy and guiding principles aligned to business strategies, and integrated with the organization's culture through initiatives that effectively engage and retain great talent across a diverse workforce
  • Set the vision for, design and develop a multi-national benefits and wellness strategy that meets the organization’s competitive needs and optimizes for spend while fostering a holistic approach to health
  • Design, deliver and maintain compensation infrastructure (salary structure, merit matrices, bonus guidelines, etc.) which provides framework and guidance and allows for appropriate flexibility to meet changing market needs
  • Deliver a comprehensive compensation review system to align with the needs of multiple disciplines and functions across North America, ensuring approach aligns to the motivation and growth of top talent and meets critical business needs
  • Apply knowledge of both our business and external market practices to develop and recommend new, alternate and innovative total rewards solutions
  • Partner with talent management and HRBP’s to design and execute the annual rewards and promotional review process aligned to business strategies and the organizations performance management philosophy
  • Determine and carry out detailed competitive market analyses in all areas of total rewards to ensure program design and delivery meet changing market demands.
  • Develop a comprehensive training and communications strategy to support our philosophy and ensure employees and leaders understand and value the total rewards offered by the Company and their choices to optimize these rewards to meet their individual needs
  • In partnership with Board Consultants, facilitate, prepare and deliver all total rewards information and exhibits for Board of Director and Compensation Committee meetings
  • Partner collaboratively with our finance team on payroll, stock administration, and forecasting efforts
  • Oversee the management of our benefits vendor relationships, benefits contracts, and bid negotiation
  • Ensures compliance with all governmental regulations related to compensation and benefits programs; partners with internal legal and external experts to ensure up-to-date requirements and risks
  • Provide relevant comp and benefits data and trend information to HR partners and business executives to help drive key talent and organizational decisions.

Education and Experience: 

  • A university degree or diploma and a minimum of 8 to 10 years' related experience in total rewards strategy and management, preferably in a high-growth environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Holds or is working towards CEBS or CCP designation.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation and administration. of various rewards strategies to include base salary administration, geo-pay, sales and incentive compensation, variable rewards and equity compensation
  • Experience leading and directing a team
  • Impeccable communication skills; able to explain complex ideas in a simple, clear manner, deftly answer challenging compensation and benefits questions, and connect with a variety of audiences from Board members to employees
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, leaders and external partners.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Previous experience with a multi-national employer; ability to set global rewards strategies with flawless local execution. Previous Life Sciences industry experience preferred.
