Job Summary
The Gaming and Entertainment division is looking for an experienced Human Resources Vice President who will build strong relationships with our leaders and employees and will partner with teams on all activities from employee relations, performance management and compensation, organization support, talent acquisition, onboarding and learning and development. You’ll collaborate with our divisional HR team for benefits, payroll and HRIS.

This is a critical role which sits on the Gaming and Entertainment leadership team. You will report to the President of the Gaming and Entertainment Division with a dotted line to the Ziff Davis Chief Human Resources Officer. The role is based in Los Angeles, CA and you will be expected to be onsite in the office several days a week.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the President of the Gaming & Entertainment division, the VP of HR will lead the development and execution of the employees lifecycle. We are looking for an effective hands-on leader with a proven track record who can support the scaling of our division, with nearly 400 employees across the world, through organic and M&A activities. This strategic partner will drive business partnerships through cross functional alignment with various operating departments and key stakeholders. This leader will manage a team of approximately 5 HR professionals, supporting employees across the globe with most employees residing in the US, UK, and Australia. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Vision and Strategy: Partner with the executive leadership team and strategic stakeholders to help establish and execute on the long-term vision for key people operation functions, drive future organizational design and change management initiatives to maintain a high-performing, motivated, and impactful team. Foster an environment which stimulates open communication, collaboration, imagination and engenders a team spirit in solving problems and achieving growth expectations
- Values and Culture: Promote our core values while making us an employer of choice in the gaming industry. Act as a steward to ensure that all decisions, programs, and processes are aligned with those values and goals. Help us to scale the organization quickly (organically and through M&A) while maintaining our performance-oriented culture
- Performance Management and Recognition: Enhance our company-wide performance management program to help us identify high and low performers, promote and reward excellence, and drive continuous, transparent feedback across all disciplines
- Professional Development: Build scalable professional development programs that aid in growing our team’s capabilities and drive employee retention
- Management and Leadership Training: Drive scalable solutions around making our leaders better managers; provide coaching and feedback to our existing leadership team and develop programs that prepare high-potential employees
- Talent Management: Attract, develop, motivate and retain top talent throughout the employee lifecycle
- Data and Compliance: Improve the collection and use of people-related data to aid in better decision making; develop key metrics to measure employee happiness, performance, engagement, and retention; ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements across each of our offices
THE CANDIDATE
The Gaming and Entertainment VP of Human Resources will be an independent, intelligent, data-driven, and dynamic executive who is highly results-oriented. They will bring the right combination of skills and experience to develop a high functioning HR team. This leader will have a non-political, collaborative, fair, hands-on management style that emphasizes clear, direct, communication and transparency at all levels. The ideal candidate has demonstrable success in leading by example with a commitment to setting and achieving ambitious, but realistic, employee experience goals. They should have a good balance between IQ and EQ, while relying on data for thoughtful and fast-paced decision making to drive velocity across the team. They have a proven track-record of developing talent at all levels that add to the culture and results of an organization. This leader will translate business goals into people-based initiatives, balancing short term priorities with long term goals. They are willing to challenge the status quo with a laser focus on outcomes, influencing upward through Ziff Davis. This leader should have a passion for problem solving, bring an innovative spirit and continually drive equity and inclusion, striving to make us a top employer in the gaming industry.
REQUIREMENTS
- 10+ years direct Human Resources experience, with 5+ years leading HR teams in growth-oriented and multi-national companies
- The proven ability to influence and inspire change with executive and operating teams through active communication of the people strategy
- Proven success in delivering high-impact people operations programs around performance management, culture, employee engagement, and retention
- A track record of being a business partner to executives across a variety of functional areas and a demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all departments and staff
- Expertise in coaching across the full spectrum of seniority
- The ability to think strategically but also focus on tactical and operational issues
- Comfortable with data, KPIs, and OKRs that measure the effectiveness of programs and strategies
- Ability to build and communicate business rationale and financial impacts of programs
Work Environment:
- Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, M-F. Due to the nature of this role, there may be an expectation to work late evenings and early mornings to meet employee/ company deliverables and requests.
- Travel Requirements: Travel to events, event locations, as needed. International travel as needed. May be required to work weekends due to events and load in/ load out schedules.
- Physical Requirements: This role involves standard office-based activities, including extended periods of sitting, standing, and working at a computer.
- Work Model: This role will be required to go into our Los Angeles office on a hybrid basis, at least 3 days per week.

Salary Disclosure: Ziff Davis provides a range for the base pay. Factors that may be used to determine your actual pay may include your specific job related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The base pay for this position ranges from $165,000-$215,000, plus incentive compensation, 401K with company match, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, short and long-term disability, and a flexible time off policy.
