The Linux Systems Engineering role reporting to the Senior Manager, Network Operations forms an integral part of our European Operations Team which strives to deliver operational excellence and ensures that our customers across our global infrastructure have reliable access to our award-winning suite of Internet security services.

Job Duties:

  • Work alongside our team of front-line helpdesk engineers and resolve issues and answer questions posed by customers.
  • Troubleshoot, manage, and resolve escalated problem tickets for application errors and emerging security threats.
  • Suggest, plan and make improvements to our growing infrastructure and a wide variety of internal applications
  • Work on your own or as part of a team to complete project work from our project roadmap.
  • Work with our infrastructure engineering team to assist in the diagnosis of our server hardware and help to have faulty items replaced.
  • Assist in upgrading applications, operating systems and infrastructure to help maintain our security posture.
  • Take part in our light touch on-call schedule.
  • Not be phased by having to write documentation and run handover meetings with your team after completing a project.
  • Be a Rockstar.

You must:

  • Have worked as a Systems Administrator/Engineer/DevOPS engineer and have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with Linux. We favour Ubuntu as our operating system of choice.
  • Be confident and comfortable using Python and Bash as a programming language.
  • Have good knowledge and experience working with Ansible. We’re happy if you’ve used Puppet or Chef.
  • Understand networking principles, such as routing and switching
  • Be comfortable working with servers and infrastructure across multiple datacenters.
  • Be comfortable working with email MTAs such as exim, qmail, postfix or sendmail.
  • Have experience supporting MySQL database clusters and some experience using the MySQL cli.
  • Have a head for troubleshooting and finding faults, recording them and working the problems to resolution (where possible).
  • Be an approachable, outgoing team player who wants to work hard and have fun. 

You can have

  • Experience working with Terraform
  • Experience supporting infrastructure across 
  • Cloud experience, ideally working with AWS.
  • Experience in monitoring solutions such as Nagios, Icinga or CheckMK and with metric graphing systems such as Grafana and/or Prometheus
  • Knowledge of containerisation technology, such as Docker
  • Experience with CI/CD technology such as Bamboo, TeamCity or Jenkins
