Position at IGN

This IGN role focuses on both a daily and long-form news content strategy during UK hours, reporting directly to IGN’s Director of News. You will work with a team of writers, both internal and freelancers, to report on news stories from a variety of sources, including your own industry contacts.

We’re looking for someone who devours news online and isn’t afraid to pick up the phone to pursue original reporting for news discovery or to add new value to reports that are already out there – and to collaborate with our team of award-winning reporters who are experienced at doing the same. They will also be responsible for recruiting and leading IGN’s pool of freelance writers in UK hours.

IGN’s editorial team is made up of all kinds of people that share a common love of games, TV, movies, comics, tech, and all things geeky. We strongly encourage people of every race, gender, sexual orientation, and background to apply.


  • Stay on top of and discover news, trends, and community engagement to identify what stories and topics we need to be covering in games, entertainment, and tech.
  • Identify and prioritize assignments based on newsworthiness, analytics, and/or audience interest.
  • Cover press events and create content plans around major conventions and conferences.
  • Recruit and lead news freelancers during UK hours
  • Collaborate with the features team to strategize around news follow-up features.
  • Collaborate with the previews team to identify prominent topics and discussions that can be broken out as news segments.
  • Collaborate with production team to create shows, longform reports, and other forms of video news coverage.

Required skills

  • You have an established experience as an editor, and news reporter in games, entertainment, and/or tech.
  • You consider yourself embedded in tracking news, and can identify the most interesting and newsworthy details of a story.
  • You have regularly covered trade shows and conventions.
  • You understand how to write for IGN's audience and can optimize your pieces for both search and organic discovery.
  • You have good camera presence and can speak extemporaneously on games and entertainment-related topics.
  • You have established contacts in the gaming, tech, and/or entertainment industries.
