Position at Consumer Tech

The Opportunity:
The PCMag Shopping team is looking for a sharp, savvy editor who lives and breathes consumer tech and knows a great deal when they see one. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with shopping and affiliate content, a talent for translating specs into plain English, and a genuine excitement for helping readers save money on the tech they want most.

As Shopping Editor, you’ll write and edit multiple daily stories spotlighting the best tech and electronics deals from top retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and beyond. From laptops and TVs to headphones and smart home gear, you’ll track the latest sales and surface the best offers on the products we recommend.

Our mission is simple: guide our readers to the best tech products, backed by PCMag’s expert reviews, while helping them get the best prices. In this role, you’ll bring that mission to life by producing smart, engaging, and approachable stories that appeal both to loyal PCMag readers and to deal-hunters discovering us for the first time. Beyond your own bylines, you’ll play a key role in shaping our coverage by editing and developing freelance contributions.

This position is ideal for a driven writer-editor who wants to help define PCMag’s deals voice and thrive in the fast-moving, ever-evolving world of affiliate commerce. This role requires original, human-generated work at all times, in adherence with our editorial policy. The role reports to the Managing Editor of the Shopping team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Generate and pitch original stories, including deals/shopping posts and buying guides based on research, market observations, and available data sources, including PCMag's industry-leading lab testing
  • Update evergreen stories weekly, biweekly, and monthly, and revise copy as additional newsworthy material is received
  • Update live blogs during shopping events and holidays
  • Edit content submitted by other staff writers, contributors, freelancers, and content partners
  • Parse daily/weekly analytics and data for team-wide reporting while identifying the white spaces in our coverage
  • Work with our Sr. Associate of Merchandising on updating group deal modules
  • Act as the point person for shopping coverage when the Managing Editor is out of the office
  • Contribute regularly to team and staff-wide meetings, collaborating, and ideating with other editors and writers

Job Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of professional writing and editing experience at an established website, magazine, or newspaper. Tech-focused experience is a major plus.
  • A demonstrable understanding of and interest in the space where technology and affiliate content meet. You should be familiar with the PC technology landscape and how to find and surface the best deals.
  • You must be a motivated self-starter who can independently prioritize projects and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. A strong work ethic and strict attention to detail are keys to success in this role.
  • Your ability to write quickly and clearly in a confident, authoritative voice that is also engaging, entertaining, and informative is absolutely essential.
  • You've got the editing chops to make rough copy shine while adhering to PCMag's style and editorial standards.
  • You should be familiar with SEO/GEO and have an interest in audience analytics. Proficiency with these tools is a plus; willingness to learn is required.
  • You should be comfortable with online publishing platforms and digital image manipulation.
  • You must be open to periodic flexible scheduling and be available for major shopping events, some of which fall on weekends, including Amazon Prime Days, Black Friday/Cyber Monday, and Cyber Week, along with some holidays.
  • Our offices are located in New York City. We’re willing to consider applicants interested in remote working arrangements, but you must be able to work our core hours of 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. ET.
  • *Applications will not be accepted without a cover letter. Please tell us what makes you the right candidate for this role.
