The Overlay Support Specialist is responsible for day-to-day monitoring and administration of accounts.  Overlay Services is comprised of three primary product offerings:

  • Tax Overlay is a customizable solution for investors who want to control or customize the realization of gains in their portfolios, or diversify concentrated portfolios in a tax efficient manner.
  • Impact Overlay allows clients to combine multiple personal conviction screens (security restrictions based on various social category screens (“SRI”) and apply them to a traditional SMA / UMA.
  • Overlay support for internal teams for large rebalance activity or sophisticated trading scenarios


A general breakdown of the Overlay Support Specialist responsibilities is as follows:

Executing the Account Management Process – Daily, Weekly, Monthly & Quarterly Action Items (60%)

Working with Envestnet’s proprietary investment management system, the Overlay Support Specialist will identify client accounts for optimization (potential trading), execute trade instructions, review recommended transactions based on established guidelines, and consolidate & execute transactions across accounts for execution and allocation.


Reviewing Audit Reports and Performing Necessary Follow Up (5%)

The Overlay Support Specialist must ensure that results are consistent across accounts, and ensure that accounts are managed within their specific tax settings as defined by the client and their financial advisor (for Tax Overlay accounts), or are managed within the specific security restriction constraints defined by the client and their financial advisor (for Impact Overlay accounts). The Overlay Support Specialist will run and review various audit reports, and will execute additional follow up action as required based on those reports.


Working with Overlay Team/ Internal Support Teams (30%)

The Overlay Support Specialist will work with the Overlay Team and the Sales Team to provide superior service to financial advisors and clients. This typically requires researching and answering account-specific questions that arrive from an advisor or client through the Overlay Services Specialist team or the Sales team. Also responsible for coordinating with Recon/Service/Tax Lot Teams to maintain ongoing account management.


Participating in Enhancement Discussions and Testing Changes Designed to Improve the Process (5%)

The Overlay Support Specialist will participate in discussions with business and technical analysts to define and test process and technology improvements expected to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the investment process.



  • Required: Knowledge of investment management operations and practices with particular emphasis on separately-managed accounts including trading and portfolio accounting systems
  • Required: Knowledge of financial markets, including equities, fixed income, mutual funds, ETFs, and hedge funds
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Envestnet’s account management processes, procedures, and systems
  • Preferred: Understanding of multi-factor risk models and optimization
  • Preferred: Understanding of Modern Portfolio Theory



  • Required: Experience working in a fast paced environment with daily mission-critical deadlines
  • Required: Monitoring output of an automated system and identifying and resolving exceptions
  • Preferred: Experience in the Envestnet operations/trading organization.
  • Preferred: Experience with MS Excel
