Description

The Data Governance Lead will be responsible for tactically executing against the evolving data governance strategy and objectives at Envestnet. They will partner with business and technology leaders to shape, guide, and advance an enterprise-wide data governance framework that ensures data is accurate, accessible, consistent, and secure. The ideal candidate for this role has a blend of Data Governance, Data Privacy, and Compliance experiences.

 

Job Responsibilities 

Contribute to the burgeoning enterprise-wide data governance team, strategy, framework, and supporting processes, including data ownership, stewardship, quality, and accountability frameworks.
  • Define and Enforce Data Ownership & Stewardship
    • Establish clear roles and responsibilities for data owners and stewards across business units, collaborating with extended teams and leadership to create program awareness and drive issue resolution / escalation.
    • Facilitate cross-functional stewardship programs and councils to ensure accountability for authoritative data sources, data quality, accuracy, lineage, privacy, and compliance; maintain and enhance associated KPIs.
  • Drive Data Quality & Integrity Initiatives
    • Develop and implement data quality standards, validation rules, and monitoring processes.
    • Collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams to remediate data issues and improve trust in enterprise data assets.
  • Contribute to Data Classification & Protection Efforts
    • Direct the classification of data assets based on sensitivity, regulatory impact, and business value.
    • Partner with Privacy, Security, and Legal teams to ensure appropriate controls are applied to sensitive and regulated data.
  • Develop and Maintain Governance Policies & Compliance Frameworks
    • Author and maintain data governance policies, standards, and procedures aligned with privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
    • Ensure governance practices support audit readiness and regulatory compliance across jurisdictions.
  • Guide Implementation of Data Governance Technology Systems and Processes 
    • Include considerations for metadata management, data lineage, and monitoring tools. 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (e.g., Information Management, Data Science, etc.)
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Proficient in executing against well-defined procedures and processes.
  • Ability to create high-quality deliverables with minimal oversight.
  • Foundational technical expertise, including both business acumen and strategic thinking, as well as the ability to identify issues and contribute to problem-solving solutions.
  • The ability to multitask effectively and deal with change and ambiguity in a diverse and constantly evolving environment.
  • Working understanding of the financial services industry, products, and services.
  • Ability to foster healthy working relationships and communicate effectively.
  • A self-starter, who can effectively navigate a complex fintech organizational structure.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Some experience in Data Governance, Privacy, Cybersecurity, Risk, Compliance, or IT Audit.
  • Basic knowledge of industry leading data governance principles, practices, and technologies, including an understanding of significant related regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, etc.)
  • Experience with data governance tools and metadata management.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand major data governance (DAMA) and cybersecurity frameworks (NIST/ISO).
  • Willingness to pursue a related professional certification(s): CDPM, CIPM, CIPT, CDPSE, CISA, CRISC, CISM, and/or CISSP.
