The Role: Xylem seeks to hire a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team. This role will be responsible for applying electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems in order to create and assess electrical designs, including computer modeling of electrical current movement or efficient transmission of electrical energy, assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of electrical assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing.


Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot various software and hardware issues.
  • Create or revise programs, including Visual Basic and PLC logic, on existing and new equipment.
  • Create electrical designs for new equipment for in-house use, with full drawings and BOMs creation.
  • Upgrade/improve existing designs/equipment by modifying drawings and BOMs as needed for safety, ergonomic or productivity improvements.
  • Design and lead implementation of new personnel safety improvements, including examples like light curtains, two-hand anti tie-downs, etc. 
  • Designs power and control circuits, in AutoCAD Electrical, for Engineered to Order (ETO) and Configured to Order (CTO) multi-Pump systems, controlled by PLC and VFD, by conducting research, as needed, and applying knowledge of electricity and materials to meet each customer’s application requirements.
  • Confirms system and component capabilities through researching, as needed, all relevant technical specifications and listing agency requirements.
  • Maintains and improves electrical systems related to standard products and Configured to Order (CTO) product lines.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components, including soliciting observations from Assemblers.
  • Provides electrical engineering information for customers and Field Service Engineers through answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains any relevant databases by writing computer programs and entering project/job data.
  • Maintains and improves existing Visual Basic configurator for Bill of Material creation for CTO designs.
  • Preparing specifications for and finding a source (supplier) of required standard and custom components for ETO electrical systems.
  • Estimating and reporting on component costs for customer quote preparation.
  • Any other relevant duties as assigned to help support the Production department, Manufacturing Engineering department, Product Engineering Department, Maintenance Department, and the organization

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s in following or similar curriculums: Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Mechanical Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering
  • 0-3+ Years in designated Engineering or related field.
  • Ability to read, understand and utilize electrical standards, i.e. NFPA 70 N.E.C., UL 508, 508A, 508C
  • Ability to read and understand electrical control schematics.
  • Familiarity with VFD's
  • Familiarity with Industrial Communications protocols:  RS485 (Modbus), Ethernet I/P, 4-20mA HART Loops, RS232 Serial
  • Microsoft Visual Studio
  • SQL Server
  • MS Office Applications, including Word, Excel, PPT, Access, Project
  • PLC/PAC Controllers
  • Automation Direct
  • HMI design
  • AutoCAD Electrical
  • VBA/Macro creation/modification
