Brief Description/Job Summary


As a software engineer at Sentec (Xylem’s brand), you will find yourself working with a number of different clients and on internal R&D projects, developing innovative solutions to technical challenges. At Sentec you will be working in a rapidly evolving industry at an exciting time for technologists developing solutions for the sustainability agenda. In order to be successful you will need to demonstrate leadership in pursuit of technical solutions and novel ideas, have a hands-on approach to problem solving and ultimately managing projects against time, budget and client expectations.



The role is varied and you will be required to apply your problem solving skills on a daily basis. You should enjoy participating in a dynamic team, working towards deadlines and delivering excellent technical solutions. You will be required to communicate effectively in a wide range of environments, both with colleagues and clients and will have the opportunity to develop your negotiation skills. As well as being able to work with your initiative we are looking for you to have the following knowledge and experience:


Part 1 Describe the Position


A)           List the essential functions and major activities in order of their importance.

  • Good mathematical/analytical skills
  • Ability to optimize algorithms for time and/or code space constraints
  • Committed to producing high quality, maintainable software using industry best practice and methodologies
  • Self-motivation and an ability to operate with minimal supervision



B)           Strongly preferred:

  • Experience in any of the following varied areas would be an advantage over and above our core job descriptions:
  • Use of popular revision control systems and bug tracking methodologies
  • Object-oriented programming, e.g. .NET/Java
  • Scripting languages, e.g. Perl/Python
  • Experience in the design and administration of both SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Data analysis/data science background
  • Familiarity in interpreting schematic circuit designs
  • Use of common test equipment for embedded design, such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
  • Previous experience using low power microcontrollers.
  • Experience involving local inter-processor communications such as SPI and I2C
  • Test and manufacturing system software design
  • Linux use and administration
  • Electronic design
  • Strong Mathematical analysis

A)    Minimum professional and educational background desired (include years of experience)

  • 4-Year bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation / Electrical / Electronics / Electronics & Communication
  • 10+ year of relevant experience
  • Excellent Communication skills with strong English in both written and spoken
