Part 1. Describe the Position




(1)      Job Purpose:

FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis) and Commercial finance responsibilities of Xylem India include leading the monthly operating reviews and estimates (strategic plan, yearly operating plan, budget, quarterly estimates), providing a high quality & insightful analysis on the actuals and provide complete commercial finance leadership to the operating teams on an ongoing basis. 


In addition to the FP&A and Commercial, this role also shall support the CFO and MD on various critical strategic initiatives with various financial modeling, sensitivity analysis and come up with recommendations on business decisions.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Be a business partner with all the operating teams (Sales, Operations, Procurement, service functions)
  • Lead all the planning cycles (Strategic Planning, Yearly Operating Plan/Budget, Quarterly Forecasts, Weekly Sales Flash Reports, etc.) with utmost care, high level of accuracy and thorough understanding of the business dynamics
  • Be responsible for preparing quarterly outlook of key metrics (Orders, Revenue, Operating Income, Working capital/operating cash flow) that reflects the updated business scenarios, flagging any risks in a timely manner along with recommended actions to close out gaps, if any, against the targets.
  • Help prepare short-term/medium-term plans partnering with the business/functional leaders
  • Champion long-term growth plans for India operations, dissecting by business segments/product lines and identify the entitlement model from cash and profit standpoint
  • Be responsible for developing reliable estimates of sales, standard margin, SG&A costs and communicate the estimates to the CFO and MD.  Also, be able use these estimates to report-out outlook/flash numbers to the Emerging Markets regional FP&A leader
  • Tracking the progress against the plans at operating level and share the recommended actions to meet the plan to the sales/operations leaders
  • Drive the teams in mitigating the risks against plan, by leading/monitoring the actions by owner
  • Work closely with the Accounting group and perform a deep-dive analysis into the monthly results and present the variance analysis
  • Design and develop various financial models for the business segments that are operational in India, including coming up with bold ideas considering the plant utilization level, cost structure, etc. to ensure profitable growth
  • Ensure that the operating plan numbers are met in every business segment.  Monitor and lead regular reviews to ensure key business metrics are met
  • Be the Finance champion to drive productivity savings, Lean Six Sigma savings and Material savings as per plan
  • Drive the zero-based budgeting culture across the organization and establish the appropriate tools & reports to enable the same
  • Be part of the strategic group driving the turnaround strategy including devising claw-back plan in case of any risk in achieving the same
  • Analyze the cash flow, forecast on a monthly basis for the upcoming quarter and identify risk areas
  • Monitor the cash situation and judiciously allocate the funds for investments, working capital in a timely manner and work with the CFO for additional infusion of funds as and when the need arises



Commercial Finance

  • Perform risk review of all large contracts during the bidding stage and ensure all the risks are accounted for in the cost sheets
  • Partner with the sales/commercial team in building standard terms suitable for India (including payment terms/bank guarantee/LC clauses, etc.)
  • Perform the profitability analysis of all the backlog orders, participate in Transfer Pricing discussions and ensure margins are well protected, through the execution of projects
  • Review the project profitability analysis through weekly tracking and validate the cost estimates during the life of the project to ensure robust financial forecasts to the HQ
  • Be responsible to review all customer BGs and LCs, ensure that sufficient limits are in place with the Banks
  • Drive the Working capital management initiatives and ensure that working capital KPI targets are always met through mitigation action plans clearly defining the ownership & timelines.
  • Establish a robust Distributor performance management system and drive timeliness on all operating metrics including disciplined cash management




Part 2.Describe the Person


A)Minimum professional and educational background desired (include years of experience).


(1)    Key technical skills and knowledge.


  • CA/CMA with 8-12 years of experience with special focus on financial planning, analysis and commercial finance
  • MBA in Finance will be an added advantage
  • Experience developing forecasts & operating plans and leading business / finance reviews with local/HQ leadership teams
  • Experience leading in a matrixed environment in an MNC
  • Strong in analytics with ability to clearly connect the dots by linking the operational performance to the financial outcome, identify the drivers and identify the recovery path
  • Strong in defining MIS reports in MS-Excel/MS-Powerpoint, including management packs deriving inputs from ERP and using Business Objects (Hyperion, etc.)
  • Should have constant flair for industry updates, work on competition intelligence and market analysis, with good external focus
  • Forecasting skills with clear-cut assumptions, building base case and sensitivity around base case with the right variables

This role provides a very high visibility to the senior management within the global finance organization as well within India leadership.  This role is the second-in command in Business/Strategic finance and offers working closely with the MD in various strategic initiatives in addition to driving the overall performance in its journey to profitable growth.  The highlight of this role is the combination of FP&A and Commercial finance, being part of the Turnaround journey
