Field Service Technician

The Role: YSI, A Xylem Brand, is accepting applications for a Field Systems Technician to be responsible for deploying, commissioning, calibrating and troubleshooting a variety of hydrological, meteorological systems and sensors, telemetry, and data logging devices. This remote position will be field based approximately 75% of the time, with approximately 2 weeks of overnight travel each month. The ideal candidate for this dynamic position, will have a strong technical background, including computer and IT skills, be proficient with technical report writing and standard MS Office software and be efficient working independently with an emphasis on safety.
Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:
- Installaton of automated weather, hydrology, water quality sensors and telemetry systems in the field outdoors, often in/over/near water.
- Building unistrut and other support structures, pvc and metal pipe conduits, using hand and power tools.
- Installing wiring and instrumentation and 12V power supply systems.
- Communicate with clients, sales team and production.
- Follow SOP’s, safety protocols and maintain required safety certifications.
- Travel to remote sites in natural settings that includes driving off road and occasional short rides on boats operated by the client.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Unrelated or non-specific tasks may be assigned during low utilization periods or downtime
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
- A.S. in Electrical, HVAC, Facilities maintenance or other technical discipline and 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with insalling unistrut support system and basic metalwork.
- Experience with pvc and metal conduit installation.
- Basic understanding of 12V DC power supply systems, including solar.
- Read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to communicate effectively through email and telephone.
- Good computer and smart phone skills, intermediate user of MS Office package.
- Ability to problem solve and work independently.
- Experience with working in the field outdoors.
- Travel for 75% of total hours that consists a combination of local, national, with varying duration ranging from drivable day trips to multiple nights away.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A.S. in Electrical, HVAC, Facilities maintenance or other technical discipline and 5 years of relevant experience.
- Advanced construction skills of unistrut and other supporting structures and installation of metal and pvc conduits.
- Experience with 12V solar power systems and wiring electrical equipment.
- Advanced computer and smartphone skill and advanced user of MS Office package.
- Proven ability to work outdoors in natural setting, and in/over/near water.
