Senior Development Engineer – Solid Mechanics

The Mechanics and Materials group within R&D who support product development projects, manufacturing and product ownership of Flygt products has an opening for a Senior Development Engineer with focus within solid mechanics.

You will work as a part of a small team working on a wide variety of mechanical engineering problems including the mechanics of materials and mechanical design focusing on the development of Flygt Pumps and Mixers and their installation equipment. Duties will include investigating designs and communicating effectively with other engineers and technicians, managers and project managers. The engineering department uses Creo (ProE) and our team is also using COMSOL Multiphysics for more specific investigations.

The wide variety of tasks requiring both long term and more immediate results give a constant requirement for developing new ways of investigating structures.    

Responsibilities/tasks

  • Analysis of components and products from structural and dynamics perspectives.
  • Defining experiments to be carried out in our own laboratory to verify designs
  • Perform thermal calculations of products
  • Actively participate in development project to find optimal solutions.
  • Investigation of mechanical failures.
  • Developing our methods and tools within mechanical calculation and analysis.

Qualifications

You have at least a Master of Science or similar education within Applied Physics, Material Science, Machine Design with strengths within solid mechanics or similar technical education.

To be successful in this role you should have a good knowledge of FEM calculations, (engineering materials is a bonus).

Excellent skills in English, both oral and written, are essential to perform this work. Swedish is also advantageous.

More than 5-7 years of experience with the application of solid mechanics within product development in various industries.

Flygt pumps and mixers are used extensively in the cycle of water, transporting water from recipients to water treatment plants, to consumers, to wastewater treatment plants and then back to recipients. Our pumps and mixers are used in a variety of applications from the dewatering of tunnels to the production of biogas.
