Manager, Billing
Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Manager of Billing to support the company’s end-to-end revenue cycle. This role will manage day-to-day billing accuracy, and billing-related processes that support timely invoicing, and strong financial controls. Reporting to the Director of Billing, Collections and Revenue Operations. The Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient billing operations, consistent compliance with policies, and a positive customer experience. The role will also play a key part in supporting new and evolving billing models related to monetization and advertising revenue.
Key Responsibilities
Billing Operations
- Manage daily billing activities across assigned business units.
- Ensure timely and accurate invoice generation in accordance with internal policies, contractual terms, and external requirements.
- Support initiatives to improve billing accuracy, timeliness, and overall AR performance.
- Assist in resolving customer billing questions and disputes while maintaining strong customer relationships.
- Partner with Sales Operations, Ad Operations, and other internal teams to ensure billing inputs are complete, accurate, and aligned with contract terms.
Revenue Recognition Support
- Coordinate with the Accounting team to ensure billing practices align with revenue recognition policies under ASC 606.
- Partner with Sales Operations and other internal stakeholders on deal structures and contract terms that impact billing and revenue treatment.
- Support audit requests related to billing and revenue activities.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain and support billing systems to ensure accurate configurations, master data, and ongoing operational stability.
- Collaborate with IT and system administrators to test rate changes, new products, and system enhancements.
- Support the design and implementation of new billing processes for monetization and advertising revenue streams, including usage-based, impression-based, and other non-traditional billing models.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., Ad Ops, Product, Sales, Finance) to operationalize new monetization offerings and translate deal structures into scalable billing processes.
- Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements within the billing workflow.
- Utilize ERP tools (NetSuite preferred) to support reporting, reconciliations, and process consistency.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Oversee, coach, and develop members of the billing team, ensuring high performance and effective workload management.
- Foster a collaborative, service-oriented approach within the team and with cross-functional partners.
- Work closely with Controllership, FP&A, Sales, Legal, Ad Operations, and Shared Services to address billing inquiries and support financial accuracy.
- Assist with documentation and support for internal and external audits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in billing or revenue operations, including some team leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong understanding of billing processes, AR operations, and revenue-related workflows.
- Experience supporting complex or non-standard billing models (e.g., advertising, usage-based, or monetization-driven billing) preferred.
- Experience with ERP systems; NetSuite experience a plus.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
