 What You Do:

As the Lead MEP Engineer, you are non-traditional and will help define the direction of MEP at the lab while growing your team. Your expertise may lie with one discipline but you have enough experience to work cross-functionally to inform and engage in a meaningful way driving innovation and delivering results. You are a driven problem solver with a collaborative can-do attitude, a love of innovation, engineering efficiency, and bold creative solutions. You own and facilitate key stakeholder relationships. You are a strong communicator who can dive into the details supporting and directing the team while maintaining a high-level view.


  • Drive MEP engagement across multiple initiatives with a variety of stakeholders
  • Convey technical material in an innovative way for review by technical and non-technical audiences
  • Develops and manages the MEP team and works collaboratively with a cross-discipline teams
  • Directly contribute to initiative design while planning for long term project goals
  • Create and deliver stakeholder presentations, conduct regular leadership check-ins facilitating meetings and workshops
  • Identifies and engages Smart engineering and consultant partner teams to successfully complete initiatives
  • Creates and manages engineering and consultant partner contracts
  • Mentoring junior staff
  • Has a curious, open and flexible attitude toward developing alternate solutions and methods to enhance or supplant industry norms, and has enough knowledge to understand the impacts of the norms that are broken
  • Embodies the ethos and expands the ambitions of the R+D Lab


  • 10+ years of experience managing projects from Concept through Construction Administration
  • Successful delivery of unconventional designs and novel systems or processes (IoT / Smart Buildings experience a plus).
  • Licensed Engineer with an engineering degree in mechanical, electrical and/or plumbing
  • Excellent planning skills, including careful attention to detail, information organization and timeline and budget creation and tracking
  • Working knowledge of building and planning codes, with the ability to foresee regulatory or bureaucratic obstacles to execution
  • Tools to understand potential exposures/roadblocks and strategies to overcome them
  • Experienced in BIM and Revit
  • Creative problem solver

This position is full time at the R+D Lab located on the premises of a large tech company in Mountain View, CA, with full-time employment through XL Construction.
