Position Description:

X-energy is seeking professionals to join our Licensing team in the role of Nuclear Licensing Engineer IV. This position is responsible for supporting the X-energy licensing efforts with the U.S. NRC. This person will lead portions of licensing application development and interface between the X-energy team (licensing, design, and analysis engineers) and the U.S. NRC. This includes relevant topic areas of financial, environmental laws, nuclear safety, nuclear security, emergency planning, and safeguards primarily applied to the X-energy reactor design.

Responsibilities:

  • Support or lead regulatory activities (certifications, permits, approvals, and licenses associated with the Xe-100) and ensure milestones are met as agreed with the U.S. NRC.
  • Provide regulatory guidance and support to engineers in developing technical requirements for the Xe-100 that will ensure compliance with NRC regulatory frameworks.
  • Interface with the regulators’ project managers in executing the regulatory engagement plan, negotiating review schedules, leading regulatory audits, and RAI’s (Requests for additional Information).
  • Write regulatory responses and submit them in accordance with the regulatory guidelines.
  • Support and lead planning and executing the X-energy regulatory strategy.
  • Plan, develop and submit regulatory white papers, technical and licensing topical reports.
  • Support development of regulatory budgets and planning.
  • Actively support the safety culture and ensure integration of quality in licensing processes by complying with the requirements of the Quality Assurance Program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Qualifications:
  • BS in Engineering or Science (i.e., Mechanical, Nuclear, Electrical, Physics).  Materials Science or Materials Engineering preferred.
  • Typically ten years relevant licensing experience. Preference for experience with testing and qualifications of components. 
  • Graphite experience desired. 
  • Experience leading direct NRC or CNSC interactions (written and/or verbal).
  • Experience with advanced nuclear reactor technologies preferred (HTGR-specific experience desired).
  • Possess a detailed understanding of the nuclear regulatory processes in the US and/or Canada.
  • Demonstrated project management skills to develop schedules and coordinate team activities to produce technical content for regulatory purposes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Can communicate and author technical content for regulatory purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks/assignments and priorities effectively.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite applications and other relevant software.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate the resolution of technical challenges.
  • U.S. work authorization.
