This position is responsible for providing leadership, management and technical oversight to a team of nuclear engineers designing, developing, and conducting analyses of a nuclear reactor or nuclear facility. This line management role manages a team of nuclear engineers that provide technical expertise in one or more areas of nuclear engineering for X-energy nuclear reactor design projects.
- Manages the execution of the design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
- Possess significant technical experience and proven expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Reactor core design and analysis.
- Radiation shielding design and analysis.
- Nuclear fuel analysis and qualification.
- Criticality safety.
- Reactor Multiphysics analysis, especially pertaining to transient analysis.
- Nuclear materials and chemistry.
- Nuclear analysis software development, verification and validation.
- Other areas of nuclear engineering or nuclear physics relevant to the design and analysis of small modular reactors, microreactors, and nuclear facilities.
- Manages the utilization of engineering resources across multiple projects and ensures qualified engineers are performing assigned work.
- Adjudicates technical differences within their area of responsibility to determine the best option while fostering a healthy engineering dialogue.
- Oversee design cycle sprints and provide direction to ensure the convergence of efforts of engineering team members, partners, and suppliers to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality engineering work products are on schedule and within budget as defined by the Project leadership.
- Manages engineering staff by ensuring staff are meeting expectations and promoting staff professional development.
- Influences the development of strategy, methodology and technical tools for the area of responsibility, including control of resources, policy formulation, and formal guidance for the execution of technical work.
- Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, tools, or services.
- Uses high level of judgement to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operations, product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited university or college.
- Typically, ten years of engineering experience. Graduate degrees typically count as two plus years of experience.
Travel Expectations: up to 10% depending on project requirements
