Job Summary

WRI is a recognized global organization dedicate to research and bring ideas into solutions in relation to the environment, climate change and cities. The Director of cities for Latin America will play a central role in bringing together WRI research agenda and global influencing to solve city scale challenges, working across different stakeholders and funders. The cities director will use their strategic experience along with their broad network, to help WRI define long term plans and ensuring inspiring responses are embedded in our projects to the myriad of urban challenges and opportunities we face – climate change, inequality, housing, mobility and more. The Director will ensure the technical areas of urban development, urban mobility, air quality and water and green infrastructure are truly integrated to shape future opportunities.


Main Job responsibilities

  • Play a key leadership role in responding to the Cities program global director to define WRI strategic aspirations across Latin America
  • Develop the overall cities strategy for the various areas of urban development, urban mobility and transport, air quality and green infrastructure
  • Liaise with the area directors to ensure the highest quality in the respective research projects and project delivery
  • Contribute and support fundraising efforts lead by WRI as well as identify key funding opportunities in Mexico and Colombia
  • Develop programmatic synergies using expertise on mobility and urban issues, finding connections and/or new products and services, particularly in the areas of mobility, accessibility, and safety.
  • Develop a network of key stakeholders in the region with development actors. This network will support the development of Cities program activities in Latin America.


Profile Qualifications:

  • Professional degree on Urban Geography, urban planning, urban mobility, transport engineering, architecture, public policy.
  • Post graduate degree in one the above disciplines
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Experience working in Latin America will be an advantage
  • Proficiency in English
  • Experienced and recognized leader, 15+ years of relevant work experience with at least 10 years in senior management roles.
  • Sense of urgency, and tolerance to work under pressure.
  • Team and results oriented person.
  • Fundraising experience.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Strong experience in financial management for projects.
  • Desirable Experience working in NGO´s.
