Grants and Finance Specialist

About the Program:

The Global Development Team is broken into four key philanthropic sectors (Corporate Relations, Government and Multilaterals, Foundations, and Individuals) managed by sector experts who provide strategic advice and a critical coordination function across the matrix. The Development team provides the Institute with strategic support on set and tracking institutional fundraising strategy, coordinating fundraising approaches across WRI’s network, setting key donor engagement strategies, raising unrestricted and core funding, and helping programs, centers, and international offices with priority fundraising needs.

Job Highlight:

In this role, you will be providing project management support to the five year strategic partnership grant between WRI and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). This entails working on budgeting, reporting, donor compliance, and preparing key meetings. Furthermore, you will also support the team in their work with other strategic bilateral government partners in Europe (including The Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Norway, France, and UK), with the organization of events and key meetings (internal and external) and provide administrative support to the overall team and Development Director.

This will be a hybrid position, with the expectation to be in the office one day per week on average.

You will report to the Development Manager of the Government and Multilaterals team.

What will you do:

Grant Management and Compliance (70%): 

  • Support the grant management of the five year Danish earmarked strategic grant including annual reporting, leading the coordination of annual budgets, monitoring expenditures throughout the year and helping organize the annual bilateral meeting between WRI and the Danish MFA
  • Help coordinate and ensure adherence to other core donor requirements including institutional grants with the Netherlands MFA and the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency
  • Prepare an internal document summarizing all requirements, including the main Point of Contact for each requirement and deadlines
  • Ensure all colleagues are aware of the deadlines and ‘donor rules’. Regularly communicate with budget managers to monitor budget variance
  • Respond to staff questions regarding core donor requirements
  • Ensure the reports are sent in a timely manner to the donor(s) and in compliance with financial and administrative requirements of the grant

Events and Administration(30%): 

  • Support the organization of bilateral events with European government donors
  • Support the organization of the annual Multi Partner Meeting as well as other events throughout the year with all seven government donors and partners
  • Help organize the annual planning meeting with the Danish MFA
  • Organize weekly team meetings as well as monthly meetings with teams, including scheduling and agenda-setting
  • Ensure that the list of key contacts in governments/multilateral organizations is up to date
  • Update relevant Salesforce records (e.g. conduct a quarterly review) in coordination with the relevant account managers
  • Coordinate team inputs to executive office or other teams’ enquiries. For example, invitations to government donors for key WRI events or donor listings in WRI publications.

What will you need: 

  • Education: You have a completed bachelor’s degree in finance management, business administration or a related topic
  • Experience: You have 3+ years of full-time relevant work experience, preferably in a global think-tank, other non-for profit organization, international research institute or multilateral institution
  • You have experience with grants management, including grants from governments
  • You have experience working with Salesforce or a similar CRM system
  • You have experience working with budget software and/or Microsoft Excel (experience with Cognos software is a plus)
  • You have experience working in multicultural teams
  • Languages: You have written and verbal proficiency in English

Potential Salary: 

€49,148 - €58,978 if based in the Netherlands

£38,026 - £45,632 if based in the UK

Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
