Grants Management and Engagement Associate
This is a hybrid position which requires 8 days per month in the office. You can be based in our office in Hague or London. WRI is unable to sponsor visas in the UK for this position.
About the Program:
This position is based in WRI’s Global Development Department, Government and Multilateral Relations Team. The Department supports and coordinates all fundraising at WRI and is organized around 5 teams: Government and Multilateral Relations; Foundation Relations; Corporate Relations; Individual Giving; and Development Operations.
Job Highlight:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Government and Multilateral Relations, you will support the Government and Multilateral Relations team’s Core Donor engagement and grant management work. You will be expected to work closely with the Senior Grant and Engagement Specialist who supports the WRI-Danish MFA 5-year partnership agreement and core grant. You will integrate equity into your work.
What you will do:
Core Donor Engagement and Cultivation:
- Help cultivate and deepen institutional relations with WRI’s Core Donors (especially the Netherlands MFA and Sida, the Swedish MFA)
- Organize and lead regular check-in meetings with our core donor focal points/core grant officers in these agencies
- Help organize and prepare bilateral meetings with senior donor government officials (including Ministers) in these ministries/agencies (involves the preparation of briefing notes, speaking points, updating Donor Info sheets and any other background materials)
- Help organize joint events with these donors (and others) at high-level gatherings, in close collaboration with relevant Global Program/Country Office teams (e.g. at COPs, UNGA, Climate Weeks)
- Support WRI Country Offices in connecting with local Core Donor counterparts (e.g. embassies, donor field offices)
- Support and advise on strategic engagement activities carried out by WRI Country Offices and Global Programs with Core Donors
- Prepare a short Annual Overview of WRI’s (country-level) Engagements with the Core Donors and other MPM partners ahead of the annual Multipartner Meeting
- Support WRI’s participation in senior level donor meetings (e.g. annual Netherlands MFA DG Meeting on Development Cooperation; Sida Climate and Environment Group Meeting)
- Monitor key funding, policy, political developments in Core Donor countries and help update and maintain Core Donor information and contacts in Salesforce and on the WRI intranet (e.g. donor infosheets and other materials).
- Represent the Government/Multilateral Relations team in the WRI Europe External Relations group
Core Donor Grant Management and Renewal:
- Act as the focal point in our team for Core Grant annual reporting obligations
- Monitor any shifts in such obligations, in close coordination with the Senior Grant and Engagement Specialist
- Coordinate with the Managing for Results team and with the Global Finance team to ensure timely and effective delivery of compulsory annual reports (to the Netherlands MFA and Sida in particular)
- Lead the drafting of the annual Core Donor Justification Report, in collaboration with Global Finance team
- Together with the Senior Director, contribute to the renewal of Core Donor grants at the same level of funding if possible (USD 75M)
- Help collate the requested materials, organize donor field visits, and support any other steps that are needed in the renewal processes (as of FY27).
What you will need:
- Education: You have a completed bachelor’s degree in international development, Business Administration, Research, International Relations or a related topic
- Experience: Proven experience in donor cultivation and management and are comfortable leading and coordinating strategic engagement activities with high-value donors
- You are familiar with ODA-related requirements and have proven experience in ensuring compliance with donor reporting and other contractual obligations
- Experience working in a multicultural, geographically distributed team (working in multiple time zones)
- You have experience in managing projects
- Familiarity with climate and environmental issues would be a plus
- Prior experience working in an international NGO, multilateral climate/environment fund or bilateral ODA provider as a partnership or grant officer would be a plus
- Languages: You are proficient in written and spoken English
- Requirements: Existing work authorization is required in the UK.
Potential Salary:
€57,000 - €71.000 if based in the Netherlands
£45,000 - £56,000 if based in the UK
Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
