About your role: 

WRI India is seeking a candidate for the Sustainable Cities and Transport Program to support an initiative to use AI and machine learning principles to capture and analyse transit-based crowding. The effort is instrumental in developing a science-based approach to measure, comprehend and address challenges in crowding at transit infrastructure. The initiative will demonstrate the merits of technology, its accuracy and scalability to capture crowding metrics and enable an evidence-based approach to manage heavy ridership loads of transit systems.

How your day will unfold:

  • Develop an understanding of the in-house algorithms based on Machine Learning principles. Run the algorithm on large, raw datasets based on defined parameters
  • Enhance the algorithm by building additional features that cater to specific requirements of different use cases
  • Develop robust codes to process and analyze outputs of the algorithm to derive specific metrics to meet requirements of the project. Work with transit authorities to understand requirements and translate them into functional codes. Identify new metrics that can aid in the measurement of transit crowding and identify patterns
  • Identify and collate proxy data sets that complement existing ones to complement requirements and undertake integrated analysis
  • Undertake basic spatial analysis transit station areas
  • Prepare visualization and create dashboards to visually demonstrate insights from analysis of temporal and spatial data sets

Qualifications and requirements we seek:

  • Masters/bachelor’s degree in computer science with a specialization in data science is required
  • 3 to 4 years of experience in data science related areas of work with strong analytical capabilities
  • Comfortable with object -detection, artificial neural networks, image processing tensorflow/pytorch
  • Experience and proficiency in programming in Python, R and Java Script. Knowledge on additional statistical and programming languages will be an added advantage
  • Good GIS capabilities. Experience of working on QGIS or ArcGIS
  • Experience of working in or knowledge of the urban mobility sector in Indian cities is desired
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and inclination to address complex urban challenges.

Salary and Benefits: 6,50,000 to 7,50,000 CTC PA

Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills. WRI offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.

Duration: 1 year (Extendable based on performance and project requirements)
