World Pantry is an established, growing e-commerce company partnering with leading food companies to help them capture the potential of their ecommerce business. We customize our solutions to best meet the needs of these companies, ranging from World Pantry taking on full responsibility for all facets of their DTC website business to 3PL fulfillment through our best-in-class 1-2 delivery network.
Founded in 1998 in Silicon Valley, we have multiple logistics locations across the country. The business has a track record of growth and w have achieved this through outstanding service to both our consumers and brand partners. This success is created by developing a great team of talented people.
We are looking to expand our team and accelerate our growth with this Senior New Business Development role. To this end we are conducting a national search for this position, and the successful candidate will work remotely from home and/or out of one of our facilities in either the San Francisco Bay area, Harrisburg, PA area or Kansas City, MO area depending on their geography.
THE POSITION
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Senior New Business Development Leader will be a key driver of the strategy and collaborate for execution in the development of new long-term partnerships with national brands. This individual will be responsible for prospecting, qualifying, negotiating, closing and helping to onboard new brands to grow the overall business and its profitability. The successful candidate will also grow our business with current partners.
This is an individual contributor role and is ideal for the experienced sales and business development professional who loves to personally build long term relationships with key prospects by understanding their business needs and helping to create solutions to make them successful. This is a consultative, conceptual selling process that can often have a long sales cycle with multiple stakeholders or influencers. The selling process requires that they work with many organizational levels ranging from sales and marketing managers up to the C-Suite. This individual serves as the initial “face of World Pantry” and takes the lead in building the positive reputation and awareness of the company to potential brand partners.
The Senior New Business Development Leader will work closely with the CEO and other senior team members on strategy, policy, problem solving, and product offerings. This leader will develop a deep understanding of the World Pantry business operations, capabilities, and processes by interfacing with all other internal departments and be a key contributor to the development of our organization and culture.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Identify, qualify and build relationships with prospects to ensure a strong, qualified pipeline, as well as providing key insights into the competitive market.
- Cultivating relationships with prospects, uncovering their needs and offering World Pantry solutions.
- Providing compelling proposals to prospective partners and negotiating contracts to close new business.
- Closely coordinating with internal departments for onboarding of new brand partners.
- Clearly defining our most compelling selling propositions, developing presentations, and other communication tools to help educate prospects and partners on the value of working with World Pantry and building a direct to consumer business.
- Initiating and building relationships with key prospects at multiple levels in the prospect’s organization, from first level managers and professionals up to the C-Suite executives.
- Upselling services and capabilities to current partners.
- Productizing and pricing services and capabilities in cooperation with other internal team members.
QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- A proven ability to penetrate large CPG organizations and sell at the executive level. Willing and able to sell through all levels of the organization to close the sale.
- A proven track record of closing significant business and creating strong, lasting relationships.
- Drive for Results - Credibility earned through delivering results. Balances urgent and effective action, commitment to excellence, taking initiative to resolve problems, attention to detail, and work quality.
- A strong strategic thinker and negotiator with a record of evolving and improving revenue growing strategies in a dynamic marketplace. Has good financial literacy.
- Experience and relationships in the chocolate and confectionary industry is a plus.
- A strong understanding of DTC ecommerce websites, including the essential aspects of creating and operating a successful store (i.e. UX, assortment, pricing, design, referral structure, promotional tools, email, SMS, Google Analytics), including what types of products can be successful.
- Familiarity with the technology to build and operate ecommerce stores and can explain it simply.
- Knowledgeable of the CPG industry (particularly food), its supply chain, pricing and margin structure, main channels of distribution, how DTC fits into the industry, knowledge of other ecommerce providers business models, etc.
- A strong collaborator and team builder with cross functional peers. Truly contributes to building and maintaining a high performing team.
- The ability to drive innovative thinking, propensity to think beyond walls of current business to uncover new areas of growth.
- 15+ years of progressive sales or business development experience. 5+ years in a senior level sales role selling to C-Suite executives.
- 10+ years’ experience in technology driven solutions.
- Entrepreneurial Spirit – out of the box thinker who is able to figure out how to successfully achieve goals with limited resources. Launch new ideas through curiosity and the ability to lead change.
- Effective Communicator -- Communicate clearly and effectively at all levels within the company, external partners and customers. Strong verbal and written presentation skills including the ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple way and to tailor key messages to multiple audiences.
- A service mindset where you naturally strive to provide outstanding service to our partners.
- B.A. or B.S. degree required. An MBA is a plus.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
Within their first twelve months, the Senior New Business Development Leader will have accomplished the following:
- Partnered effectively with the Chief Executive Officer and other members of the senior leadership team to grow the business and is viewed as someone who is committed to helping the team reach their goals.
- Developed and implemented highly effective sales strategy and process with key positioning and messaging, presentations, and an effective outreach process.
- Personally signed $20+ million annualized in profitable new business.
- Developed pipeline with $40 million in potential new business. Built strong relationships with existing partners and new prospects.
- High company Net Promoter Scores (NPS) scores from partner executives.
Expected annual base compensation for this position is $150,000 to $220,000 plus bonus, dependent upon experience.
