By offering support in three key areas: Direct to Consumer; 3PL Fulfillment; and Online Market Places, World Pantry provides support and expertise to address a company’s complex ecommerce challenges. For Direct-to-Consumer services, we partner with leading CPG companies to handle all aspects of their direct-to-consumer e-commerce businesses. This includes building and managing their official e-commerce webstores, providing extensive digital marketing services, offering customer service support, and fulfilling consumer orders. Our 3PL services provide 1-2 day delivery, warm weather shipping expertise and competitive pricing. Our Online Market Place services work seamlessly with Amazon, Wal-Mart and Tik Tok marketplaces.

To this end we are conducting a national search for this position, and the successful candidate will work remotely from home and/or out of one of our facilities in either the San Francisco Bay area, Harrisburg, PA area or Kansas City, MO area depending on their geography.
THE POSITION
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the CFO in managing the company's financial operations, including overseeing day-to-day accounting tasks, preparing financial statements, analyzing sales as well as inventory data, ensuring compliance with regulations including sales tax, and contributing to budgeting and forecasting, with a specific focus on the online sales channel and its unique financial aspect. Inventory and supply chain management reporting is a key component of this position, and as such this individual will be responsible for utilizing our current accounting system QuickBooks, our new ERP system, our order management system and our warehouse management system, Logiwa. In addition to working with the Chief Financial Officer and the rest of the 4-person accounting team, the Assistant Controller will also interface with the Chief Executive Officer. This is a temporary to permanent work from home position and may be based anywhere in the United States. Specific responsibilities will include:
General
- Maintaining general ledger accounts and preparing journal entries for accruals and variances.
- Reconciling general ledger accounts and revenue accounts.
- Performing accounting analysis for cash accruals, account payables, account receivables, and reconciliations.
- Reviewing financial reports to identify and explain variances.
- Following documentation retention policy to maintain accounting files.
- Performing month-end account closing activities and reconciliations.
- Generating and distributing account management reports on monthly basis.
- Assisting various departments in accounting issues and queries.
- Assisting in tax preparation.
- Preparing cash flow statements and resolving outstanding balancing issues.
- Adhering to standard accounting principles and company procedures.
- Performing accounting analyses and reporting to support decision-making purposes.
Inventory
- Developing inventory analysis reports, ensuring accuracy of all inventory data and related financial impacts.
- Assisting in the improvement in internal controls related to inventory and supply chain.
- Verifying accurate standard costs.
- Monitoring inventory transactions.
- Reconciling inventory accounts to the general ledger.
- Preparing monthly journal entries as needed.
- Completing special projects as required.
Overall Responsibilities
- Ensuring Data Accuracy: Checking that data is accurate. Conducting audits to maintain truthful and precise data in documents.
- Analyzing Financial Information: Analyzing and interpreting financial information to provide assurance that information complies with professional and regulatory standards. Ensuring that data supports budgeting and forecasting requirements, and provide solutions to control issues.
- Supporting Monthly and Annual Close Processes: At the end of the month/year, recording information such as accrual, deferral, reclass, allocations and interdepartmental entries into the company’s accounting ledger. Performing account analysis to make sure that entries and balances are correct.
- Reconciling Accounts: On a regular basis, reconciling accounts with the general ledger. Ensuring that all entries are accurate and that transactions are reported in accordance with accounting standards and government regulations. When finding errors, making changes as necessary.
- Preparing Journal Entries: With appropriate supporting documentation, preparing journal entries relating to amortization, depreciation, accruals, allocations and a variety of other information. Ensuring that entries align with generally accepted accounting principles.
QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- 10+ years of accounting experience and 7+ years of general ledger accounting experience.
- Highly skilled at correctly reconciling financials and adept in looking at cost allocations, historic data and researching issues to resolve them.
- Prior experience working with multiple entities, cash flow reporting, consolidations, budgeting and internal controls in an accounting role.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to groom a large volume of data into a meaningful/simplified presentation.
- Adept at reconciling cash, investments, inventory, fixed assets as well as other balance sheet accounts.
- Highly competent at creating financial statements that reflect the health of each aspect of the business.
- Strong cash management skills: Managing cash forecasting and cash management to meet business obligations.
- Experienced at doing manual book journals to properly record transactions that are not automated from point-of-sale software.
- Prior experience using QuickBooks and other ERP systems (NetSuite, MS Dynamics 365, SAP) as well as an inventory management system (Logiwa, ShipStream), order management systems (Shopify, Salesforce) and sales tax reporting (Avalara).
- Prior experience in retail or e-commerce with responsibility for ensuring compliance with sales tax regulations, including the use of sales tax reporting systems such as Avalara.
- Possessing the skills and work ethic needed to work independently, while keeping CFO informed on at least a daily basis.
- A strong sense of attention to detail and the desire to roll up their sleeves to get it done.
- B.S. in accounting, finance or related degree.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
Within their first three months, the Assistant Controller will have accomplished the following:
- The closing and reconciliation of general ledger accounts are current for the multiple entities.
- Successfully identified issues and brought to the attention of the CFO and helped resolve.
- Worked well in keeping the CFO & CEO apprised on status and issues.
- Effectively communicated with CFO and other stakeholders so that work is not hampered by differences in time or distance.
This is a temp-to permanent role. The expected annualized compensation for this position is $100,000 to $140,000 dependent upon experience, with the temp-to-permanent period of up to 90 days. Please submit résumés and cover letter for consideration.
