Windward is seeking a highly skilled and experienced MariaDB SME/Technical Architect responsible for designing, configuring, and optimizing a distributed multi-site MariaDB instance that is used to support an on-premises ServiceNow implementation. This role relies on expert-level MariaDB skills as well as knowledge of ServiceNow’s functionality and use of that database to deliver highly available and reliable ServiceNow services.
 
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting issues with MariaDB, preferably in ServiceNow on-premises environments. 
Key Responsibilities 
  • Maintain and optimize installations of MariaDB across multiple environments, to include architecture, design, installation support, configuration, and maintenance
  • Configure and maintain database replication within and across multiple sites to ensure performance and high availability
  • Collaborate with ServiceNow administrators to ensure full alignment and optimal utilization of the database by the ServiceNow application.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and Business Analysts to translate business needs into technical specifications and lead technical workshops to review design, architecture, and configuration approaches.
  • Provide technical leadership and ensure compliance by guiding junior developers or project teams, participating in code reviews, maintaining version control, ensuring security/privacy compliance, and contributing to technical documentation.

 

 
Required Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 3–5+ years of MariaDB development or technical consulting experience (MySQL experience will be considered, but MariaDB-specific capability is preferred)
  • Strong understanding of InnoDB internals and transaction behavior
  • Practical and demonstratable MariaDB-specific experience with performance tuning and optimization, especially running on VMware linux hosts
  • Practical and demonstratable MariaDB-specific experience with high-availability, replication, and database scaling architecture
  • Experience with backup/recovery and disaster recovery planning
  • Proficiency in scripting (Python/Bash) for automation
  • Practical and demonstratable MariaDB-specific experience with implementation of security and compliance controls.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Strong communication and client-facing presentation abilities.
     
Preferred Qualifications 
  • RaptorDB experience/expertise
  • Alternative storage engine experience for MariaDB
  • ITIL v3 or v4 Certification
  • ServiceNow Certified Systems Administrator (CSA)
